This course is based loosely on the Generation www.Y Model.
Introduction
Computers II follows and complements Computers I. Students will continue to receive daily practice in keyboarding just as in Computers I using Mavis Beacon. It is our goal that students entering the 9th grade will be able to type at least 30 Words Per Minute (WPM).
This class is project-based. It is important that students maintain good attendance so they can finish projects in a timely manner and not fall behind. We will be learning how to create database, spreadsheets, logos as well as learning all about the Internet, from Copyright and Netiquette to Internet Crime and Equity, to researching. All students must have a signed Informed Consent Agreement form on file yearly in order to participate in any computer project for any class. This form is signed by the student, a parent or guardian, and the teacher. The Informed Consent Agreement states Chimacum School District's policy with regard to the Internet and computer use as well as every student's responsibilities as a safe and ethical user. If any part of that agreement is violated, a student's computer privileges will be revoked, greatly affecting his/her grade in this class.
Students will also be working in cooperative groups to research a topic to create PowerPoint presentations to share with the class as well as learn how to create a simple web page to publish on the WWW. The four or five main applications we will be using are ClarisWorks 5.0 (database, spreadsheet, draw and paint), PowerPoint from Office 98, and Netscape Navigator and Composer and/or Claris HomePage. Since there are approximately 20 projects all together, students must maintain a quick pace of project completion in order to keep up.
