Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s), Chimacum Middle School's 6th grade will be conducting many water quality tests on different areas of Chimacum Creek. Part of our water quality testing will include conducting experiments in class to generate data to analyze. Part of our water quality tests include going on a field trip to the different areas of the creek. By visiting our water quality information website (http://eagle.csd49.org/classpages/water_quality.html) you can get information about our plans and where we will be going and when. Our first field trip is coming up very soon. We would like to visit the creek and conduct the tests before Winter Break, so we will be going to the mouth of the creek at the end of 1st Ave in Irondale where the Port Townsend Bay flows in. Sixth graders in A and B block science will be going on December 11, during the first block (approximately from 9am to 10:30am). Sixth graders in C and D block science will be going on December 12, during the first block (approximately from 9am to 10:30am). A field trip permission form will be going home with students the week before the field trip to be filled out and returned right away. Students also need to have a lab contract signed by them and you on file with me. We have room and need for anywhere from three to five parents per class who can go with us and help kids collect soil and water samples. Some students will be filming the entire process for a documentary movie as well as taking still pictures. Other students will be using handheld computers with probes to conduct water tests right on site. By visiting the website, or asking me for a copy, you can see descriptions of the jobs that are being done so you can decide where you would like to help.
