MEET THE MAYA

After 50 days of sailing through treacherous waters with no land in sight, our captain and crew were tempted to turn back or change course.  Suddenly, cries went out as land was spotted.  The four of us were chosen to go to shore to look for fresh water and food.  We were so intrigued by this uncharted coastline that we convinced the captain to stay for a few weeks.  The rest of the crew stay onboard and only the four of us walked inland to see what we could find.  We were surprised to find people!  Read on to find out more about the MAYA.

MATHEMATICIAN
As a Mathematician, I was particularly interested in the math, science, writing system and calendar of the Maya.  I found the Mayan citizens to be very helpful and informative in sharing and teaching me.

HISTORIAN
I was particularly interested in learning about the religious customs, folk tales and history of the Maya.  I was trained by their storytellers to be able to re-tell some of their oral history.

ANTHROPOLOGIST
I was amazed to see the pyramids!  The designers and workers allowed me to join them as they prepared to build a new temple.

ARCHEOLOGIST
The day to day life of the Maya fascinated me the most.  I was interested in their views of beauty.
