Computers Level Two
Project 5
1. Go to the Apple Menu. Open a ClarisWorks spreadsheet.
2. Let's resize the A column by moving the cursor up between A and B.
Drag A until it's as big as A and B.
3. In cell A1, type GPA's for 2000 - 2001. (Leave out the period.)
4. In cell A3, type 1st Quarter. (Leave out the period.)
5. In the column from A4 to A9, type in all six classes you took 1st
quarter.
6. In the column from B4 to B9, type in the grades you want to get this
quarter including plus or minus like a B- or C+. (Be realistic but don't
be too hard on yourself.)
7. In the columns from E4 and F4 to E14 and F14, type in the following
GPA scale (type it in just like you see it here):
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
F 0.0
8. Using the above scale, type in your grade points in the column from
C4 to C9.
9. In cell A10, type Overall GPA then go to cell C10. To calculate the
overall GPA, we must take the Average of all six grade points. Go to
Edit and select Paste Function...
Choose Average(number 1, number 2, ...), click OK.
Make the formula calculate your average by changing num-
ber 1 and number 2 to the first and last numbers of your
grades. It should look like this: =AVERAGE(C4..C9)
10. Hit return to calculate your GPA then save your work in your file
folder, call it GPA.
11. Select the cell A3 by holding down your mouse button then drag
down to C10. All three columns from A3 to C10 should be high-
lighted. Go to Edit, then Copy.
Select the cell A13 then go to Edit and Paste. Do the same on
A23 and on A33.
12. Change the 1st Quarter titles to 2nd, 3rd and 4th Quarters then
change all your classes to reflect the classes you think you will have
each quarter, it's okay to guess if you're not sure. Finally change
the grades for each Quarter. When you pick grades for yourself, use
a variety of different ones, put in the grades you're sure you can get
and see what GPA you'll have. (All A's is too easy, of course it's a
perfect 4.0 GPA, so pick some other grades you can get.)
13. Select and highlight the columns from E4 to F14 like you did on #11.
Go to Format, Borders... Click on the Outline box then click OK.
14. Now go to cell A1. Make it New York, size 14, Bold and Under-
lined. Resize the columns or rows as you need to make it all fit in
one cell.
15. Now make all the Quarter titles Monaco, size 12, Bold and Un-
derlined.
16. Save your work and show Mr. González.
