Grass Lake Elementary
Grass Lake Elementary is located in the Kent School District, approximately 27 miles southeast of Seattle, Washington. Our school opened in 1970 with an open concept design. Since then we have added walls and modified into a more conventional setting. However, there continues to be easy access among the classrooms for regrouping and team teaching. In 1990, our library was remodeled and a computer lab was added. We have 30 Macintosh computers in the lab, plus a computer in every classroom. Our school is completely networked and connected to the Internet.

Our technology vision is to design, implement and evaluate a technology-based integrated educational program that allows every student the opportunity to succeed. Integrating the curriculum with technology continues to be an important part of Grass Lake Elementary's approach to help all children learn. We believe:- Technology is an essential tool for the attainment of Grass Lake's curriculum goals and objectives.
- The mind makes meaning when it sees patterns and relationships. Technology enables these connections to take place across disciplines.
- An integrated curriculum using technology can combine and reduce the quantity of information while increasing the quality of higher level and problem solving skills.
- Human beings have multiple intelligences, and we can address these intelligences when we integrate technology through all content areas.
- Technology is a natural motivator that gives learners the opportunity to improve their ability to process information and make sense of the world around them.
At Grass Lake we have many successful programs which add to our school improvement. Last year we implemented Grass Lake University. This is a program which allowed teachers at our school to share their expertise in areas such as Internet Resources, 6 Trait Writing and Shared Decision Making. Classes were offered at our school and taught by our teachers. Staff taking the classes were able to receive college credit and increase their knowledge in topics our school had identified as a focus for the year.
This year we have introduced a program which involved parents helping students during the school day.
