Emailing all over the world

email

Following are rules that all students must follow to continue to enjoy the privilege of email. These rules are not only for students, but all Chimacum staff abide by them as well.

* Read your mail - students and staff, especially Mr. González, will email you and it is your responsibility to read what they have to say. If Mr. González sends you an email with instructions on what to do, he will expect that you read it and did it.

* Don’t shout - words TYPED IN ALL CAPITALS are considered the equivalent of shouting in email. Asterisks on *both sides* of a phrase are often used to emphasize.

* No put downs or bad language - remember the internet consent form you and your parents signed. Avoid sarcasm or the use of irony because it is easy to misinterpret and you could offend someone without even meaning to. Anything that offends or puts down another person, or any bad language, and Mr. González will suspend your email account.

* Keep it simple - you may use abbreviations, but stick to the common ones so people will understand you (for example, FYI - for your information - BTW - by the way - refer to Smileys & Acronyms sheet).

* Never assume your email is private - Besides the fact that your teachers and principal can, if need be, read your email if foul play is suspected, hackers could access your mail from a remote location. Play it safe.

* Extra Rules for Adv Tech Students - Remember that you only have 50 minutes a day in this class and making and upkeeping a web page is a lot of work. Because of this, you are restricted to writing and reading email to and from your friends and family to five to seven minutes a day only. If you make it the first five minutes that the teacher is taking attendance and then use the rest of the period for working on your web page, then you will get to keep your email account.

And, do not send messages to everyone in class unless you need something for your web sites. Also, sending multiple messages to any one person is not allowed. It takes time to downoad and look through email, no one wants that time wasted. Besides, doing that is like spamming and nobody likes spam (look it up if you don't know what it is).
