Marilyn Monroe is one of the most famous American film actresses of all time, although she only made a small number of films. Norma Jean's proffessional name was Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) Mortenson. Marilyn Monroe did comedy too. Two of her early comedies were How To Marry a Millionaire (1953) and the Seven Year Itch (1955). Marilyn also played more serious roles in such films as Busstop (1956) and the role Misfits (1961) in which Arthur Miller, her husband at the time, wrote for her. Her first starring role was in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Marilyn was most famous for her looks and movies. But in the end, Marilyn spiraled down into a depressive hole and ended up killing herself. We know that Marilyn was a blonde, but she was not the first platinum blonde to strike it HollyWood. But she did have a glow and energy that was unmatched by and other personality. The voluptious curves of her body and her wide-eyed girlish giggles, dominated every prescence, as did her later raptuous pose af half-lidded eyes and mega-smile that dripped with seduction for every camera to see. Her movies planted the characters she would learn to live by throughout her career; her on screen roles paralleled the role she played off-screen. From "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," (1953) to "Some Like It Hot," (1959), Marilyn was the Silver Screen diva of desire. While her life began rather simply as Norma Jeane Baker, modeling in her late teens proved that she had a face cameras loved. Her enture being lived for the lens, and her acting skills were much more proficient than one might have guessed for a woman with so much appeal. If living for the camera was an integral part of her life, so too was a deep dread of the camera. Although always composed and seemingly in control, Marilyn often feared the public. This was understandable, particuliar in the later years of her life, with increased expectations. In the end, HollyWoods most lusios bombshell died in her sleep at the early age of 36. Due to her Mothers mental dissability and the fact that she was unmarried at the time, Norma Jeane was placed in a foster home of Albert & Ida Bolender. It was here where she lived the first seven years of her life. In 1943 Norma Jeane lived briefly with her mother. Gladys began to show signs of mental depression and in 1934 was admitted to a rest home in Santa Monica. Grace McKee, a close friend of her mother's took over care of Norma Jeane. Grace was to marry in 1935 and due to financial difficulties, Norma Jeane was placed in an orphanage from September 1935 to June 1937. Grace frequently visited her, taking her to the movies, buying her clothes and teaching her how to apply make-up at her young age. In September 1941 Norma Jeane was again living with Grace when she met Jim Dougherty, 5 years her senior. Grace encouraged the relationship and or learning that she would be moving to the East Coast, set in Motion Plans for Norma Jeane to marry Dougherty on June 19th, 1942. After a year of marriage, Dougherty joined the Merchant Marines and in 1944 Norma Jeane began working in a parachute factory for some extra money and was photographed by the army as a promotion to show woman on the assembly line contributing for the war effort. One of the photographers, David Conover, asked to take further pictures of her. By spring of 1945, she was quickly becoming known as the "MMMMMM Girl"and has appeared on 33 covers of national magazines. Marilyn's favorite colors were: Baige, white, black and red. Marilyn's favorite singer was Frank Sinatra. Her favorite perfume was Chanel no. 5. And her famous quote was "Hold a good thought for me! Diamonds are a girl's best friend!"
