Chimacum Middle School Last modified: Tues August 25, 1998, see what's new.

Chimacum Middle School

This site is under construction. No, we don't mean this web site (although it's always under construction because that's WWW reality), we mean our school. The building pictured here is part of our new Middle School campus which, beginning the summer of '98, will be undergoing some wonderful remodeling. While this is happening the old Middle School building which houses most of the 7th grade and the Middle School office will be undergoing major changes. New rooms will be added during construction along with upgrades to make Chimacum Middle School truly a 21st Century School! All this remodeling and building is thanks to last year's passing of the Chimacum School's Capital Facilities Bond proposal. Parents, staff, and especially children were relieved at its passing and now the fruits of those labors are about to begin flowering.

Chimacum Middle School, as part of the Chimacum community, provides our children a beautiful space where a caring, nurturing attitude allows for positive learning and growing experiences. This ensures a smooth transition for our children as they leave Elementary School and prepare to enter the world of High School. We encourage and welcome parents and community members to offer their help and services for our children and appreciate very much those wonderful people who volunteer in our school. If you don't already, please find out how you can help. We hope these web pages will provide you with valuable information about our school. Let us know what else you would like see here.

Thank you.

Welcome

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:

Welcome to Chimacum Middle School. I hope this web page helps to give you more information about our school. Chimacum Middle School houses approximately 360 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Our students have many educational opportunities through our integrated and team approach to curriculum. Each 7th and 8th grade student is enrolled in six classes; two exploratories and four core classes. All 5th/6th grade students are assigned to a self-contained classroom. Additionally, 6th graders have band, chorus, physical education, art and computer exploratory classes.

Staff members believe that we share the responsibility of educating each child with his/her parent(s). There is a wide range of ways that you might work with your child's teacher(s) at school. I encourage you to volunteer in our school or simply visit and tour our facilities. If you have any questions regarding our program, please contact the school secretary and schedule an appointment with me at 732-4219.

Sincerely,

Kathy Wales, Principal

Technology

Chimacum Middle School shares three lab spaces with the Elementary and the High School until the construction of new facilities is completed. We have a media lab equipped with a Quadra 660 AV, four LC 550's and a new Power Mac G3 with 62 megs of RAM at 266 MHz as well as a photography dark room. The media lab is used for making yearbooks and school newsletters.

Next to the media lab is a word processing lab/keyboarding lab with ten LC 475's and 20 Mac Classics equipped with ClarisWorks, Mavis Beacon, and All The Right Type (the LC 475's also have Netscape installed). A third lab is equipped with 30 Mac 550's with CD roms where students can access the internet as well as use CD ROM encyclopedia programs to do research. All the labs are fully networked, as is the whole district, and students and teachers can access personal folders on one of our seven district servers. In addition, every classroom has at least one teacher station computer and one or two Mac classics. Our district is truly on the edge with it's own DNS server and a new Proxy server along with our existing Email and Web servers. For more information visit our Technology Department page.
