Dragon Search Parent Letter

Dear parent or guardian,

In science this year your child will be studying watersheds. Wild Olympic Salmon has created a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the East Jefferson County watersheds hands-on through a kind of scavenger hunt. At the Chimacum County Park, next to Chimacum Schools, a kiosk tells a story of an ancient, mythical dragon. Wild Olympic Salmon, with the help of generous sponsors, has laid dragon tracks throughout East Jefferson County and left clues on how to find the tracks. The tracks are placed in key areas of the different watersheds of Jefferson County.

I have created a web page that will be a virtual field trip of the areas where the tracks are located. It would be a great help and a great experience for your child if you could volunteer to take your child and try to find one of the thirteen tracks and take a picture of it. Your child can then write a story about the search and the area where the track was found, including a description of any stream, river, pond or lake nearby, to publish on the World Wide Web on our class web page.

If you can take your child to any of the locations listed on the back side of this sheet, please let me know. There is no time frame for when you can do this, we have all year so any time that is convenient for you is great for us. Thank you.
