6th Grade Science
Monday -
Today we will decide
who will do what part of the research for the
letter to the Governor.
Students will
continue their research
and note-taking for the volcanology
writing project from the book as we practice the RUN
section of the SCAN & RUN
reading
strategy and "click
or clunk".
HW - No homework
assigned.
Tuesday - Students
will continue their research
and note-taking for the volcanology
writing project from the book. I taught a lesson on using
my class computers. Here is what we covered in class today:
- Don't touch others' folders
(no moving, renaming or opening).
- Move chairs slowly to and
from computer stations so the legs don't get caught up on Ethernet
wires.
- Check the hard drive for
your computer's name.
- Use the Apple Menu to access
the programs.
- Use the Internet
Dictionary for Word
Wizarding.
- No need to search, use
my sites instead.
- Bookmark my site at home!
- Start taking notes (we
SCANNED one website to save time).
Then students
began taking notes from the
Internet.
HW - No homework
assigned unless students want to start their rough draft early.
Wednesday
- Today
we will begin a rough draft of the letter to the Governor as students
finish up their notes. (See volcanology
writing project for info.)
We will continue
to practice/review the SCAN
& RUN reading
strategy from time to time.
HW - Finish
your rough draft.
Thursday
- Students will revise
their rough draft of the letter they are writing the Governor
for the volcanology writing
project and begin their first drafts.
Today is the
deadline to get notes. I will grade the notes today for participation.
HW - Finish
your first draft.
Friday -
Students will peer
edit their first draft of the letter they are writing the
Governor for the volcanology
writing project and begin their second drafts.
HW - Finish
your second draft. Rough draft, 1st draft AND Second draft are
all due together on Monday, Oct 7.
If you haven't
been doing your homework, do your rough draft, rewrite it adding
and changing to make it better, then have a parent or older
sibling edit it, then finally
rewrite it for the last time. Use the
rubric as you revise!
