What Is A Tsunami And What Causes Them.
Tsunami, when we hear this word we say "O, a really big wave , no matter to us." But to the people over in Indonesia, Banda Ache, or other places hit by this deadly monster of the ocean, this word means fear, destruction, and grief.
I know a lot of you are sitting on your chairs watching the news saying, " I will send some money to the nearest relief station," but here's a question for you, have you ever sent that money? Here is some information on these killer waves.
WHAT ARE TSUNAMIS
Tsunamis are huge waves that can reach incredible heights. And the can each speeds of 500-600 miles an hour. The largest tsunami ever record in history was 460 meters tall. That is 1390 feet high.what caused this giant of giant waves was a magnitude 8.0 earthquake. But the earthquake did not cause the whole wave, the earthquake took place a few miles away from a mountain, and half the mountain caved into the ocean, from the force of the earthquake. So what stated as a 30 foot Tsunami turned into a 1390 foot Tsunami. This wave did not kill any people. But one man and his son saw this monster wave coming at them and there row boat, they thought the end was coming but by some miracle they were able to get there boat to the crest of the monster wave and ride safely down the other side. This wave hit the sid of a different mountain and ripped all the trees off the mountain up to 1390 feet. When scientists saw the old growth trees then a line of new goth trees, they were puzzled them, what force was capable of ripping trees of a mountain 4000 feet high. This puzzled them for years until they learned about the tsunami then they figured out what happened. Out in the deepest parts of the ocean a tsunami can pass your boat at the height of 3 feet, but when the wave his shallower water it grows immensely.
WHAT CAUSES TSUNAMIS?
Tsunamis are caused by under water plats slamming in to each other, this cases a earthquake. A earthquake causes a Tsunami by the borders of plates slamming into each other, and eventually one plate will slam into the other just right and one plate will go under the other and the second plate will rise up thirty feet from its original place. The force of the plate rising would cause the water to rise and cause a thirty foot Tsunami. Other cases of Tsunamis are under water volcanoes. Volcanoes case Tsunamis by the force of the eruption will displace the water. Tsunamis cased by volcano's can rang from 30 to 60 feet tall.
RELIEF EFORTS
Relief is poring in from around the world, but there is still not enough. About 10,000 tons of food, water, and medical supply's have been delivered. They still need about600,000 more tons of supply's There are still over 5,500 people that relief has not yet reached. Over 250,000 people died from the Tsunami.
