I gotta say that doing this type of work is a great way to keep my job fresh. At a recent WA STEM grantee meeting I learned about the next level of the work. My work at school keeps me really focused through my narrow lens of working with middle level kids. The WA STEM project I’m working on helps me widen my lens by working with the other Science and Math teachers in our middle and high school in using social networking as a learning and sharing tool. Attending the last grantee meeting I was able to see Chimacum’s work as a tiny piece of a larger puzzle. That larger puzzle is improving STEM education in WA state. Sure, I knew that but it’s not something that I normally think about since I’m so focused on my students past and present (past because getting to work with the high school keeps me informed as to the progress of my former students – cool, huh?).

To educate people about STEM and share some facts about STEM in WA I created the flyer shown here. On the WA STEM website there is some great information including their media kit where I got the information included in the flyer and their about WA STEM page, which is cool because it tells about this wonderful organization. WA STEM is awesome and they are doing some amazing, cutting edge, innovative work and I am so glad to have been able to be a part of it. I’m a believer of educating the whole child and I support the arts and language and history and physical education and whatever else people are into but STEM is near and dear to me because I’ve been just teaching Science for seven years now and it has been fun! 🙂
(If you can’t see the flyer then click here for a pdf.)
Stem

My work as a grantee of one of the first WA STEM Entrepreneurial awards is very exciting.
