I’m all for integration. My national board certification is in early adolescent generalist (which, btw, doesn’t even exist anymore!) so integration was my first choice when I taught multiple subjects to one class of students like the elementary model. There are benefits to teaching multiple subjects to one class, such as integration, but for better or for worse I chose to teach Science five times a day to five different classes of students. It reduced my preps and allowed me to get good at something instead of spreading myself thin.

The problem is that I gave up teaching reading strategies. Why? Sadly, time. I would rather spend the time on Science content and labs and projects than reading strategies. When I did teach reading strategies I used created this resource: Reading Strategies. I still taught different strategies when I first started teaching only Science.

I actually preferred teaching Scan-n-Run over SQR3. It’s been a while and looking back I used Scan-n-Run with textbooks, which fit books perfectly. I no longer use Science textbooks all that often if at all so Scan-n-Run doesn’t seem all that useful. Is SQR3 better for reading websites?
