Past funding from The Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board has greatly contributed to the development of our aquatic program.

Most of the photographs (image use policy) and content from this guide were originally developed by Jeff Adams (Washington Sea Grant) for Stream Bugs as Biomonitors: A Guide to Pacific Northwest Macroinvertebrate Monitoring and Identification, then adapted by Xerces staff for use in wetlands. Jeff's broad knowledge of macroinvertebrate taxonomy and natural history has greatly contributed to this guide.

The image of the water boatman (corixidae) that appears in the left hand corner of every page was taken by Michael Clapp. Michael Clapp has also contributed some of the invertebrate images within the key. He hosts an excellent macroinvertebrate website: www.nwnature.net and has also produced field guides for stream macroinvertebrate monitoring (available on his website).

We appreciate many other individuals who generously allowed us to use their images in this guide:
Edward S. Ross, Emeritus, The California Academy of Sciences
Daniel Pickard, The California Department of Fish and Game
David Rosen, Wildside Photography
Eugene Hall, University of Colorado Museum of Natural History

We appreciate that t he following individuals allowed us to use their scientific illustrations:
Barbara Dupperon, Michigan Science Art
Ethan Nedeau, Biodrawversity

Illustrations of beetles in the family Hydrochidae were used from the following publication:
Reitter, E. 1908. Die Käfer des Deutschen Reiches. Band 2. Fauna Germanica. K. G. Lutz Verlag, Stuttgart.

We are very grateful to William H. Clark of Albertson College of Idaho's Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History for providing a detailed bibliography of Northwest macroinvertebrate monitoring and identification literature.

These individuals have greatly assisted our work in wetlands this past year, by allowing us to sample invertebrates in the wetlands they manage or own:
