Mr. González' Classes Homework/ Daily Activities Week 4, 2/21 to 2/25

Math Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Today I will be at a meeting to help align FOSS science kits with the new Science GLE's. I'm trying to get FOSS kits in the 6th grade for next year. I will have a sub all day again. Kids will begin problem 3.2 today. HW - ACE #'s 7 & 8, p. 33. Wednesday - We will have a different schedule today due to the inflatable games students won back in October for selling magazine subscriptions as a school fundraiser. Students will get to play on the games from 12noon to 2:10pm. (There will be alternate activities for those who do not wish to play on the inflatable games.) Today in math we will work on finishing problem 3.2, then we will check the homework. HW - None Thursday - We will start Investigation 4 with problem 4.1. HW - ACE 1-8, pgs. 38-40 (a labsheet was passed out so that students can use it to do #4, but they can use graph paper instead). Friday - No math today because we have a science test. HW - None

Science Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Sub today. Today we will work on the water quality websites. Check out the Hood Canal Youth Summit (we will be attending that on June 2 to participate in a water quality day of sharing with other schools). HW - None Wednesday - Today we will work on the water quality websites. HW - None Thursday - Today I will introduce students to some scientific method terms (manipulated variable, controlled variable and responding variable). We will review what we have learned and studied so far so that I can give students a water quality final test. As I told students today, I was going to wait until they finished their websites, but I think working on this final test will improve their websites so we'll try the test tomorrow. Students will have ample opportunity to fix their test if they don't do well on their first try. I developed the test after the training I went to last Friday on Using the Science WASL as a Powerful Classroom Assessment Tool so my students will get used to science WASL-type questions. HW - None Friday - Science Test continued. HW - None

Language Arts Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Sub today. Students will finish their The Highwayman illustrations. HW - Groups G4 and G5 have homework tonight. They are to write an apology letter the Friday's sub, Mr. Howell, for being terrible during 5th and 6th period. I want those letters turned in to me first thing tomorrow. The letter needs to include the following: states what their behavior was, what it should have been and why there were so mean and disrespectful. They must apologize sincerely, too. Wednesday - Students need to finish their The Highwayman illustrations. They have been socializing more than they are working. I'm not sure if they'll have time to work on it today due to the HIV presentations. We might watch the Mimi episode #6 during this time. I'll let you know after today. Okay, here's the scoop, the majority of students wanted to watch the Mimi #6 so we did that today. HW - None Thursday - Project Alert with Heidi Dodd. HW - Tomorrow I will collect last week's Reading Logs (they will have had two weeks to finish this log!). Heidi also gave a homework assignment that the kids and the parents both have to do. The sooner they do it, the better chance that they will turn it in so encourage your child to turn it in tomorrow. Friday - Today we will finish Mimi #7, then begin Mimi #8. (We finished and corrected Mimi #7 and only got part way through Mimi #8.) HW - Today I gave kids back their The Highwayman drawings. Their homework is to finish those (I included notes on the drawings so they can see what they need to do to finish). I cannot give them anymore class time to finish those because they already got two full class periods.

Social Studies Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Sub today. Today all 6th graders will have part one of a two part HIV presentation. HW - None Wednesday - Today students will have part two of their HIV presentations. HW - None Thursday - Correct Mimi #6 and start Mimi #7. HW - None Friday - Today we will have our school-wide (5th - 8th grade) Spelling Bee! HW - None
