Tuesday - Today we will correct yesterday's homework. Problem 3.2, p. 32.

HW - ACE #'s 26-31, pp. 36-7.

Wednesday - Today we will correct last night's homework. Then students will do a half-way-through-the-book Binder Check!

If we have time we will start our Bits & Pieces 1 Investigations 1-3 quiz.

HW - None

Thursday - I will have a sub because I have to be at a team training workshop right here on campus. Terry Bergeson, the State Superintendent of schools, will be here to join us this morning! I will be done by 11am so will have time to get my students ready for Trading Post tomorrow.

Practice Worksheet 6-8 on Least Common Multiple (LCM) if all teams are prepared for Trading Post tomorrow.

HW - None

Friday - Trading Post from 8:15am to 10am!

HW - None

Future plans: We will work on Bits and Pieces 1 for the rest of the year.

Social Studies (3rd per)

Monday - We are going to continue math to make up for not doing math last week. I also need time to finish figuring out how much maple leaf dollars everyone has earned so far.

We only got as far as finishing problem 3.1. Many students were off task, which is why we took so long, and some students did not finish in class so they need to finish problem 3.1 for at home.

I did get to finish tallying all the money each student earned in the Canadian Vacation project, phases 1 and 2. I handed that document to students and that was my only copy so anyone who loses it loses all his or her money.

HW - Same as math.

Tuesday - Today student teams will become family units as they plan their two-week Canadian Vacation!

HW - None

Wednesday - Canadian Vacation Phase 3 continued (family units are planning their 2-week vacation across Canada).

HW - Prepare for the Trading Post (letter went home today).

Thursday - Students will have time to finish and turn in all their Family Vacation sheets (individual tally sheets, individual decision forms, and family decision forms). Students will work on Canada crossword puzzles while they wait for the rest of the class to finish.

HW - Get ready for trading post tomorrow, parents are invited!

Friday - Trading Post today from 8:15am to 10am!

HW - None

Future plans: This week we will finish Phase 3 of the Canadian Vacation project and prepare for the Trading Post!

Science (5th per)

Monday - We are ready to start EMM lesson 8 today.

HW - Reading logs for week 5 are due this Friday.

Tuesday - Students were so off-task yesterday and talked so much that we never got to the lab! Today we will take off from where we left off yesterday. Students will complete Inquiry 8.2 (they only finished Inquiry 8.1 yesterday, which was supposed to be the quick exercise that led to the fun lab!).

Students can explain Work scientifically (ask your child) and they all know what Fd=W means and how to calculate it in N-m which equals 1 Joule! Go ahead, ask your child.

HW - None because I collected the Inquiry 8.1 and 8.2 sheets, which included the reflection questions from p. 78 in the book.

Wednesday - Today we either do the EMM lesson 8 reading or we will leave it for later (some students liked the jigsaw activity we did with the reading from lessons 5, 6 and 7, and they wanted to do that again), or we will begin EMM lesson 9. Students learned how to calculate Work in lesson 8 (Fd=W) and today they will learn how to calculate Power (P=W/T in Watts where 1 Watt = 1 Joule per second)! Cool science and some math to boot :o)

HW - None

Thursday - We worked on getting ready for tomorrow's Trading Post during this block.

HW - Reading logs, Phantom of the Opera permission and EarthWise Media model release form are all due.

Friday - We will take some time to debrief the Trading Post at this time.

We ended this long, busy, hot day by listening to The Phantom of the Opera. We almost finished the first Act, but the majority of kids chose to wait until Tuesday to finish Act 1. (I have to say that I was a bit shocked by their choice. I personally would've wanted to start my three day weekend by knowing how the first Act finishes and what the "disaster beyond your imagination" was going to be!).

HW - None

Future plans: This week we will through EMM lessons 8 and 9. Lesson 10 is the assessment for the Energy unit.

Language Arts (6th per)

We are still blocking these two periods and combining Language Arts with Science.

Reading logs are still due every Friday, which means that all students are still expected to read daily at home for a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes. I give students a copy of the  Reading log every Monday or at the latest Tuesday.

Exploratory - 1st period

Monday - Teams will have time to finish their Hood Canal Youth Summit graphs and movies.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will finally start our study of the Phantom of the Opera! Our focus will be on whether the phantom, or O.G. as he likes to refer to himself, is a man or a myth.

This morning I passed out a great resource for your child. A few weeks ago I had each student take a Learning Style Inventory survey. Those surveys generated student reports detailing your child's learning styles! The report tells your child what his or her preferred learning style is and where he or she is weakest! I told kids to use those reports and to definitely save them for next year to get off to a great start.

I also passed out reading logs today and a model release form to you (parents) to sign.

With so much going on we only got as far as listening to Christine's version of Think of Me.

HW - Please sign the Model Release Form from EarthWise Media if you are okay with having them use your child's footage from the movie they filmed at our Dosewallips water quality testing on April 13. I need to get those to EarthWise Media.

Wednesday - Our study of the Phantom of the Opera will continue today.

HW - I sent home a permission slip for your child to watch Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera movie. Please sign one way or the other and return with your child. Thank you.

Thursday - Prepare for Trading Post by making signs and finalizing who will do what in each team. This is mostly a work-at-home project.

HW - Trading Post!

Friday - Students will prepare for the Canadian Trading Post, which will run from 8:15am to 10am (setup will take place during this period)!

HW - None
