6th grade Science:

Monday - This week students will work on their volcano and lava types sketches so they can begin looking at pictures of Mt. Saint Helens crater as part of our Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity.

HW - Make sure all your paperwork is filled out and signed and turned in.

Tuesday - Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity, continued.

HW - Same as Monday

Wednesday - Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity, continued.

Today period 2 was trained by Mr. Thomsen's period 2 8th grade class on how to take pictures of plants. Some activity groups will need to do that for the 7th and 8th graders this year as part of our HP grant project.

HW - Same as Monday (for 2nd period, here's the webpage Mr. Thomsen was talking about).

Thursday - Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity, continued.

I trained period 1 today on how to take pictures of plants next week if their activity group gets the cameras.

HW - Same as Monday and make sure to ask your child for the 2nd Cispus reminder, it's an orange half sheet today.

Friday - Finish as much of the Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity by today.

We will begin part two of the Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity today so that students can see pictures of Mt. Saint Helens and its lava dome.

Today I will train period 6 on how to take pictures of plants at Cispus.

HW - Bring all your Cispus gear Monday so that you don't have to worry about it on Tuesday when we leave for camp. If you'd rather, you can bring your gear on Tuesday morning. Students will arrive Tuesday at their regular time.

If you did not finish all your five volcano drawings and descriptions and all your four lava types and descriptions then you need to finish that for homework. All our libraries have Internet and you just need to do it on a loose sheet of paper to glue into your notebook when done.

7th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will work on our procedures so students can do their lab. Then they can collect data and make conclusions.

HW - None, unless you still have to turn in any paperwork signed by a parent. And if your family has any needed items to donate or loan us, do bring them in.

Tuesday - Today we will work on finishing our data tables and graphs after students collect their data by flying their paper airplanes. Today was supposed to be the deadline for this lab.

HW - Same as Monday

Wednesday - I gave students more time today to finish their paper airplane labs. Yesterday we looked at how to make the data table and the graph. Today we looked at how to write the conclusion. If students didn't finish in class I assigned the rest for homework. Students can download a copy of the inquiry boards to work at home, then glue their work into their notebook.

Then we looked at the question, Is it living? Students filled out a formative assessment, which will serve as a pretest about living things.

HW - Same as Monday and finish your paper airplane lab at home. While we learned how to write the conclusion I also shared ideas for extra credit so all students should get an A+ on this lab unless they socialized in class and didn't pay attention. Download a copy of the inquiry boards here to do the lab and the extra credit.

HW - Same as Monday plus finish your paper airplane lab if you didn't finish in class. It's due by Monday, Sept 17.

Friday - Students will create venn diagrams to list things they see as living and non-living as we work towards a working definition of what is living.

Students will share their venn diagrams with those in their team, then those in their tables. Then tables will share out with the class what they have come up with.

HW - Same as Monday
