What we got with Learn & Serve America Year 5
(which is actually Year 2 of the Mini-Grant!)
Learn and Serve

The $4,000 from Year 5 (2007-2008) was increased to $7,046 (plus the $314 carried over from last year)! They got more funds this year! It will be spent on the following:

Here's the plan as written in my grant proposal for year 2:

Of the $7,046.00 awarded the $6,802.00 left after the indirect costs will be spent on the following:

Year two we will have our three Hood Canal field trips as well as visits to the mouth of Chimacum Creek. This year we may not have a Youth Summit per se. The costs for all the field trips will be approximately $1,230.00.

Year two this year Al Gonzalez will need six days of substitutes while he is away with each class on the Hood Canal field trips and tree planting. The cost we will be approximately $750.00

Year two – among the supplies needed this year are chemicals for the advanced water quality kit, chemicals for the LaMotte kits, an 80 GB hard drive for transferring movies to the DVD burning computer, replacement fecal coliform bacteria kit, a new surber sampler with 500 micron mesh net, a replacement tripod, new chest waders, and new probes (dissolved oxygen, pH, etc). We will also purchase 10 computer microscopes, with the necessary software, so that each team can view the macroinvertebrates on their team computer. We will purchase another digital titrator for the advanced water quality kit so that the hardness and dissolved oxygen teams can both run their titrations at the same time. Finally, we will purchase a document camera to have students share their work in class. The cost will be approximately $4,822.00, which includes WA State tax and Shipping and Handling.

The $314 carryover funds will be used to purchase other chemicals for the advanced water quality kit plus two more battery chargers and extra AA and AAA rechargeable batteries.
