Middle School Math teachers from the entire district worked on a committee to choose the best math program for our district. Laurel Rowan, our NO-LIMIT grant trained representative, was very excited to recommend the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) series for the Middle School! The Connected Mathematics series is very exciting because it is a problem-solving based math. Students will get to work on math concepts in-depth in ways that will facilitate their learning. At the 6th grade, we will start the year off with the Data About Us Statistics unit. This unit fits my program especially well because we start off the year by studying water quality in science and learning how to explore, collect and analyze data will help our science unit tremendously. Learning about data in math and then working with actual data in science is also a perfect way for kids to learn. Once we are done with Data About Us, we will begin Prime Time! Then we will be go over area and perimeter on Covering and Surrounding. We ended the year by studying fractions with Bits & Pieces I. Links to handouts we use in class:
