The Noquiklos Story
(Taken from the kiosk at Chimacum Park.)
Quarlo, a warrior of the Chimakum Tribe,
befriended Noquiklos and brought the dragon to his village on Scow Bay.
With mightly Noquiklos for a friend, Quarlo prospered and grew powerful.
The friendship between Quarlo and Noquiklos
could not be harmed. When a hundred jealous villagers attacked the pair,
they were destroyed by the flames from the dragon's deadly gaze. The
remaining villagers were convinced to befriend Noquiklos, and they too
prospered and grew.
But nothing lasts forever - even for a magic
dragon. When Quarlo died of old age, Noquiklos dove into Puget Sound. But
did the dragon disappear? Some people claim to have seen Noquiklos off Kala
Point in the early morning when the Dog salmon run.
Long ago, Noquiklos lived on an island in Anderson Lake and basked in the
sun on Tomanawas Rock. This dragon had bright gold scales and blue eyes
that flickered like fire.
