What is a tsunami?
A tsunami is a bunch of waves that are long in length and in time
period. A tsunami is a Japanese word where tsu means harbor and nami means wave.
How does an underwater earthquake cause a tsunami?
A tsunami can be caused when the floor of the ocean shifts and displaces the above water from where it is. Waves are made and what determines the size of the wave is the amount of the sea floor deformation. Not all earthquakes make tsunamis. They must occur under or near the ocean to cause a tsunami.
How does a underwater volcano cause a
tsunami?
Any disturbance that displaces a water mass from its position
can start a tsunami and volcanic eruptions causing tsunamis displaces more
quickly.
