large bugs (20-65 mm) with broad, oval, slightly flattened bodies and raptorial front legs; wingtips have numerous veins; a pair of short strap-like appendages may be seen at tip of abdomen
Pleidae (pygmy backswimmers)
front legs are not raptorial, and are similar to the other legs; tiny (< 3 mm); body is oval and convex
