Abdomen is generally more elongate than in most dragonfly
larvae. Flat labium. Antennae have 6 or
7 long, thin segments.
Corduliidae
(emeralds)
scoop-shaped labium witrh clearly visible, evenly-sized teeth on the lobes. Short stiff points at the tip of the abdomen; head lacks frontal horn.
Libellulidae
(skimmers) Labium is scoop-shaped and generally lacks teeth; if lobes of labium do have jagged teeth, then the tip of the abdomen will carry long spines.
Petaluridae
(petaltails) Labium is flat; antennae have 6 or 7 short, thick, fuzzy segments. Dark bodies (grey to black).
