Along with the forestflies (Nemouridae), sallflies are probably the most common and abundant stonefly family. Like forestflies, they are generally small and tend not to be as obvious as the golden or giant stones.
The Chloroperlids are generally predators and hunt on and between rocks. Some are adapted to living in the hyporheic zone. The larvae have cylindrical bodies and relatively short legs and cerci; gills are usually not present. |
