Taeniopterygidae adults emerge mostly in the winter and early spring, so early instar larvae are usually collected in late summer samples.
Mature larvae look similar to Nemourids (forestflies). As early instars, they resemble many other early instar stoneflies, but Taeniopterygidae can always be distinguished by either a triangular plate on the underside of the last two segments of the abdomen, or by segmented gills present at the bases of their legs. |
