HW/Daily Activities

(This may change from day to day depending on how much we actually get done in class so check back often to make sure something wasn't changed at the last minute.)

Here is a list of the handouts that need to be read and signed by parents and students. Please send the signed handouts to school this week (if you have not already done so). Thank you for taking the time to do all this.

Cispus permission form, payment form and medicine form (the medication form is only needed if your child will need to take medicine at camp). Please make checks payable to Chimacum Middle School if you are paying now. - Due ASAP, no later than Monday, 9/13, or Tuesday, 9/14, please.

Cispus t-shirt or sweat shirt order and check payable to Nancy Wyatt - Due Tuesday, 9/14.

Scholastic Arrow Book Clubs order form and money (checks made payable to Scholatstic Book Clubs) - Due Wednesday, 9/15.

The Class Expectations/Norms sheet, The Informed Consent Agreement (for use of computers and the Internet and to publish websites), the Lab Safety Contract and the National Board Certification Permission sheet are all due ASAP, the sooner the better.

Math

Monday - Today we will work on Investiation 1.1 together in class.
HW - ACE #1 (p. 15) ONLY. Please do not do the others.
Tuesday - Today we will have our first day of lawn activities in preparation for the Cispus Challenge course. Team 1 will go out during math while Team's 2 and 3 will work on learning about the archaeological dig at Laser Cave and draft letters to their high school counselor.
HW - None today.
Wednesday - Early Release today, school ends at 11:10am. Today we will start Investigation 1.2.
HW - None
Thursday - Today we will complete Investigation 1.2, check the homework (ACE #1) and begin Investigation 1.3.
HW - ACE #'s 3, 4, 5, 7 AND 11, 12, 13, 14 ONLY.
Friday - Today I will spot check the homework. While I take G1 out for lawn activities, the rest of the class will be working on other Cispus activities.
HW - There will be no homework tonight (that would be way too mean).

Science

Monday - We will continue practicing the SCAN-n-RUN on Ch 12, section 1 of the science textbook. The SCAN-n-RUN strategy really helps in taking notes by outlining.
HW - None
Tuesday - During science, Team 2 will do their lawn activities while Teams 1 & 3 continue with the Laser Cave and counselor letter writing activities.
HW - None
Wednesday - We kept working on math during science time because we went to take pictures during math.
HW - None

Language Arts

Monday - We will finish classifying the list of things we do everyday and we will look for patterns.
All this is in preparation for reading The Giver.
HW - None, unless you want to buy your child a copy of The Giver from the Arrow book order I sent home last week.
Tuesday - Today we will finish categorizing our list into what things we have 100% choice, some choice and no choice. Then we will look for any patterns that emerge from the things we have choices over doing or not doing.

Wednesday - No Language Arts today due to Early Release.
HW - None
Thursday - Today we are going to discuss rules in society and why they are necessary. If we finish in time, we will begin by making some observations and predictions about The Giver and maybe even start reading it!

Friday - We should be reading some of The Giver today. It will be hard waiting a whole week to get back to The Giver!
HW - None

Social Studies

Monday - Today we are going to review the Students Rights & Responsibilities. I will jigsaw the activity to make it less boring.
HW - None, but when we finish students will take the booklets home for your records. The last sheet in the booklet needs to be signed by students and parents.

Tuesday - We will continue summarizing and sharing the sections each group had to read in the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.
HW - None
Wednesday - No Social Studies today due to Early Release.
HW - None
Thursday - Today I want to finish going through the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook. I will also take the class out for some whole class lawn activities.
HW - Sign the last page of the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and keep the book for your records and if you would like, bring your child's gear tomorrow.
Friday - Students get to meet their Cispus activity counselors and create their Cispus name tags.
HW - None, prepare for Cispus next week.
