6th grade Science:

Monday - We will be working on Cispus activities all day Monday here at school. Students can bring their gear to leave here and they will take the 2:20pm bus home.
Tuesday - Students can take their regular bus to school and we will leave for camp at about 8:30am.
Friday - Students need to be picked up from school at about 2pm.

7th grade Science:

Monday - This week I will have a substitute while I am away with the 6th grade at Camp Cispus. Today I will be here though.

I think we will put our discussion of what is life or living until I get back from Cispus so that today I can review SCAN-n-RUN for students to start learning about plants as we prepare to complete an HP Technology for Teaching grant project that our math and science teachers wrote last year. This project will lead students through a study of botany as we take pictures of plants to identify them and create our own online field guide.

We will start with Ch 9, section 1, page 242 of our Glencoe Life Science, 2002, textbook. Once we are done SCANning section 1, we will review how to take outline notes.

By Friday students will compete in a poster contest where students will create 8 1/2" X 11" posters. They need to be hand drawn but I might accept computer generated posters that students create at home. The class will then vote on the best posters after I make the first set of selections when I return from Camp Cispus. The winners will be used on the online field guide that we will create! The posters needed are:

A plant classification poster (p. 246)
Vascular plants vs. Nonvascular plants
Seeds Vascular vs. Seedless Vascular
Nonvascular plants poster
Seeds Vascular plants poster
Seedles Vascular plants poster

HW - None, unless your child did not finish his or her paper airplane lab. That was all due today for those who had it for homework but I will accept it as late as Monday, Sept 24. Please encourage your child to finish this as soon as possible. If your child says that he or she did it all in class and gets a low grade please make an appointment to talk with me and your child. Let's nip that in the bud before your child falls too far behind.

Tuesday - Continue learning about plants for our botany project by SCANning and taking outline notes of Ch 9, sections 1, 2, and 3.

HW - Same as Monday

Wednesday - Same as above.
