Jobs (2000-2001):
Film
crew: Film the entire process,
documentary style. Film in class labs as well. Take still
digital photos of the entire process. Edit the footage to
create a news show documenting the study.
Soil Testing
crew: A few groups of kids will
conduct tests on the soil to determine how much nitrogen and
potassium it has as well as its pH level.
Water kit
crew: A few groups of kids will
conduct water quality tests such as dissolved oxygen, pH,
hardness, carbon dioxide, and silica by direct
titrations.
Water probes
crew: Some kids will be using the
Palm IIIc with the Vernier probes to conduct dissolved
oxygen, pH, temperature, turbidity, and flow rate
tests.
D. O.
kit: An extra dissolved oxygen
kit was purchased to make sure all other dissolved oxygen
readings are accurate.
Fecal Coliform
Bacteria: A group of kids in each
class will test the water to see if there are any fecal
coliform bacteria present.
New Tests in 2003-2004!:
Because we keep getting good results on every test AND the Benthic
Macroinvertebrate sampling shows that our creek is polluted, we
have decided to run more tests to find out what exactly is causing
the pollution.
We have enough money from the Learn and Serve America
grant that we were able to purchase the following new tests: E-coli,
sulfides, ammonia, iron, lead, copper, chlorine and pesticides.
We'll see if any of these come up high.
