Jobs: Film crew: Film the entire process, documentary style. Film in class labs as well. Take still digital photos of the entire process. Edit the footage to create a news show documenting the study. Two students in each of my four classes will take on this job. Macroinvertebrate Sampling group: Three students in each class will work with the Benthic Index of Biological Integrity by collecting samples of bugs that will be sent to a lab. We will get to keep one sample to study and classify the bugs ourselves. Water kit crew: A few groups of kids will conduct water quality tests such as dissolved oxygen (3 students from each class), pH and Nitrates (3 students from each class), hardness (3 students from each class), and carbon dioxide (3 students from each class) by direct titrations. Water probes crew: Some kids will be using the Palm IIIc with the Vernier probes to conduct dissolved oxygen and flow rate (2 students from each class), pH and air pressure (2 students from each class), temperature and turbidity (2 students from each class), and conductivity and relative humidity (2 students from each class). Fecal Coliform Bacteria: Some students will test the water for the presence of fecal coliform bacteria (3 students from each class).
