Tech Campaign @Indiegogo Style

It may look like our 1:1 middle school Indiegogo Tech Campaign is not doing very well. We’ve only raised $195, not even enough to buy one Chromebook. I’m very grateful to those friends who cared enough about our campaign to donate. It’s very gracious of them. The good news is that this campaign has some …

Arena Conferences

Last Thursday and Friday we didn’t have school for regular classes so that we could meet with parents and students for conferences. Teachers were available Thursday from 8am to 8pm with a couple of meal breaks and Friday from 8am to 12noon. For me seeing and talking to over 50 of the 67 families I …

Help Our School @indiegogo

Our school, Chimacum Middle School, has had a tech plan for moving to a 1:1 student to device ratio. Originally, we devised the plan to have every student use an iPad. Then we decided iPad Minis would be more cost effective. Very recently we decided to give students Chromebook Flips. The plan is sound and …

Why are Chimacum Schools Having a 1 Day Strike?

The short answer was best said by Malala Yousafzai, “Education for EVERY child.” [Emphasis my own.] Friday, May 15, Chimacum School District educators voted unanimously to join many other schools in Washington state in what are being called rolling walkouts. (See this article in a local WA newspaper, the Peninsula Daily News.) Schools all over …

Behavior Self-Assessment

After having students make three promises to help us have a safe, happy and fun classroom I made a google form so they could assess how well they’ve kept their promises on a weekly basis. So far many students have taken the assessment two or three times since we drafted the promises. I compared their …

Sharing is a Good Thing

I came across this post by George Couros, 4 Reasons People Don’t Blog and Ideas to Help Change Their Mind. He gives some great ideas to the reasons people give. I have to admit that I’ve heard those reasons when I tell people how wonderful blogging is to me. In his post George shares this …
