González Topic: Ecology (Click here to see the rubric for this essay) Concept: Components and patterns of the earth system Directions: Explain how human societies' use of natural resources affects the quality of life and the health of the ecosystems. An effective writer may consider the following points: Explain how environmental degradation and resource depletion is occurring at various rates worldwide, as a result of overpopulation, laws, technology, and a country's affluence. Explain that human activities cause environmental change. Describe how activities involving resource acquisition, urban growth, land-use decisions, and waste disposal accelerate changes in resource availability, ecosystem viability, and carrying capacities. For your writing task, you will have the opportunity to follow all of the steps of the writing process: prewriting, writing a first draft, revising and editing your first draft, and writing a final draft.
