Geology Essay Required Elements

Following is a list of what students need to cover in their essay for a score of 5 (somewhat like an A grade):

Igneous Rocks: Ignis, they come from magma or lava, cools and hardens, extrusive, intrusive, textures (such as porphyritic, aphanatic, glassy, etc.), mineral arrangement (like a jigsaw puzzle), mineral size, and have no fossils.

Sedimentary Rocks: Weathering, erosion, deposited, compacted and cemented (cemented by dissolved minerals), clastic, organic, chemical, minerals if present have no pattern, only rocks to have fossils.

Metamorphic Rocks: Changed rocks, from heat and pressure, foliated (bands and layers), non-foliated, hard rocks, no fossils.

Rock Cycle: Needs to have the correct diagram (from the book or the web), and needs to have an accurate description that uses above vocabulary words, and needs to show why it is a cycle.

Soil: Tell how soil is formed, humus, profile, horizons (labeled or named and explained), and soil types.

Conclusion: Not required unless the essay doesn’t seem finished.
