Math

Monday - Finish problem 7.1, p. 70 and the follow-up.

I have a sub today because all the 6th grade teachers are meeting to plan Cispus for next year.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today is WASL day #1. We will be doing the Math with no tools WASL.

The kids did a great job today. I reminded kids that this has been a great year for service. Testing the waters of our own Chimacum Creek and helping NOSC plant trees is a great service to our community and to our watershed. Testing the waters along the west side of the Hood Canal is a great service to that watershed. Participating in the Hood Canal Youth Summit will be a great activity that students can list on any future resumes! So I encouraged students to continue with their spirit of service and to try their best on the 6th grade Pilot WASL. The better they do now, the better the test will be for future 6th graders. I told students that even if they get many of them wrong, as long as they try their best, the test will be fixed until it's good enough for all 6th graders.

HW - None, get enough rest, eat well and be refreshed and ready for WASL each day.

Bring a calculator for tomorrow.

Wednesday - Math with tools WASL. (Students can use their calculators - I will have a few to loan out - I will also give students access to rulers, protractors and manipulatives if they need them.)

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will work on problem 7.2, p. 71. We will do this during 6th period today because we left yesterday's science lab out on the tables to finish first thing in the morning!

HW - None

Friday - Problem 7.4, pp. 73-74.

I will have a sub for 1st, 2nd, 3rd periods and Eagle Time because I have a doctor's appointment.

HW - None

Future plans: This is math WASL testing week so we will do our best to work through Investigation 7.

Social Studies

Monday - Canada Vacation project phase 1 continued! Students need to turn in their product (posters, maps, etc). Then, in their teams, they are to finish their Basic Info Packets. Finally, individually, they are to take their province notes and write the first draft of their one-page report.

HW - Finish whatever you need to be caught up!

Tuesday - Math WASL without tools continued.

HW - None if you are caught up.

Wednesday - Math WASL with tools continued.

HW - None if you are caught up.

Thursday - Today we will work on the Canada Vacation project phase 1(finish the Basic Info Packet with your teammate(s) and/or work on the 1st draft of your province/territory report).

We will work on this during 2nd and/or 3rd period today.

HW - None if you are caught up.

Friday - Canada Vacation project phase 1 continued.

HW - None if you are caught up. Otherwise, finish your province report, final draft, this weekend. Monday we will correct the Basic Info Packets and I will collect the Province report final drafts.

Future plans: We will keep plugging away at our Canadian Vacation project during 3rd period!

Science

Monday - Students might have time to put any finishing touches on the water quality webs and/or movies. They need to be ready for publishing!

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will start the Energy, Machines and Motion science kit with Lesson 1 on observing energy, machines and motion (I set up eight stations around the classroom for students to observe and take notes on energy, machines and motion).

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will finish lesson 1. We have to finish sharing observations and then we will read pgs. 9-11 in the textbook and discuss the scientific method and Galileo Galilei.

After we are done with lesson 1, we will begin lesson 2 where students will get to make their own battery using zinc, copper and a CuSO4 solution (copper sulfate).

HW - None

Thursday - Project Alert with Heidi Dodd during 5th period.

Then we will do our math for today. We will finish science lesson 2 during 1st and maybe some of 2nd period today.

HW - TBD

Friday - Today I led students through EMM lesson 3 as I demo'ed the lab on Rechargable Batteries. We also read about Different Batteries for Different Needs on pages 24 and 25.

Then students collected their materials for EMM lesson 4 (Storing and Using Energy in a Battery). We will finish this lab on Monday.

HW - None

Future plans: I would like to get as far as we can on our Energy, Machines and Motion unit!

Language Arts

Monday - Today Language Arts is being blocked with Social Studies, so see Social Studies Monday to see what is being done today.

HW - Same as SS Monday.

For the time being we will be blocking Langauge Arts with Science so whatever we do in science we will also do in Language Arts.

Future plans: Language arts will be blocked with science and we will do all our reading and writing from the Energy, Machines and Motion kit using the textbooks that came with the kit. They are great and one of the teachers in my lesson study group blocks Language Arts and Science in this same way with her 7th graders!

Exploratory - 1st period

Monday - Today during this period students will watch a Canada video for their Canadian Vacation project with my substitute teacher.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will begin the WASL during first period and we will use as much of second and third period as we need. We will most likely have SSR during our normal SSR time.

HW - None

Wednesday - WASL again today, the math with tools test.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will start the day with yesterday's science lab, Making a Battery. It was much easier to leave all the materials out than to clean up and then set up again.

Once we were done with the lab, we read pages 16 to 19 on batteries.

HW - None

Friday - Today kids will watch two short Canada videos to get more information for their Canadian Vacation project!

HW - None

Email me if you have any questions or concerns.
