Week 5, 5/9 to 5/13

1st per - Exploratory - 7:35am to 8:23am
2nd per - Math - 8:27am to 9:15am
3rd per - Science - 9:19am to 10:07am
SSR - 10:07am to 10:24am
Eagle Time: 10:28am to 10:53am
Lunch - 10:53am to 11:34am
4th per - Band/Fine Arts - 11:34am to 12:26pm
5th per - Language Arts - 12:30pm to 1:18pm
6th per - Social Studies - 1:22pm to 2:10pm

Math (2nd per)

Monday - Today we will do problem 2.2, p. 20, and we will start problem 2.3, p. 22.

HW - ACE #'s 1-5, p. 26 and finish making the number line for problem 2.3, p. 22, if you didn't finish in class.

Tuesday - Today we will finish problem 2.3, p. 22, and check the homework. Then we will start problem 2.4, p. 23.

HW - ACE #'s 19-27, pp. 27-28.

Wednesday - Today we will correct yesterday's homework then we will complete problem 2.5 on p. 24.

HW - ACE #'s 28-36, pp 28-29.

Thursday - Today we will check yesterday's homework. Then we will finish problem 2.5 before we begin problem 3.1, p. 31.

HW - None

Friday - Victoria Field Trip!

HW - None

Future plans: We will work through Bits & Pieces I for the remainder of the year. If we can, we will finish it! :o)

 

 

Social Studies (3rd per)

Monday - Today students took turns sharing their Canadian Vacation project Phase 1 products (most students made posters from the list of products). Students helped give each other feedback.

HW - Be ready to present (know your province).

Tuesday - Today we will continue to take turns sharing Phase 1 posters.

Wednesday - Today we will continue to take turns sharing Phase 1 posters.

HW - Be ready to present (know your province).

Thursday - We have a few more students who need to present/share today, then individual students will fill out a self-assessment sheet and teams will score their PowerPoint presentations together.

Friday - Victoria Field Trip!

HW - None

Future plans: Once we are done with Phase 2 of our Canadian Vacation project, students will see how much money they have earned in the form of maple-leaf dollars. Then we will begin the 3rd phase - the family vacation phase!

 

 

Science (5th per)

Monday - Today is the day where our class will participate in my lesson study by being the students observed. Teachers from Port Townsend, Bainbridge and Chimacum (our 7th grade science teacher) will be visiting today to watch my students complete day 2 of EMM lesson 7 on the force exerted by a motor. The students are doing very well on these lessons and they were great today! :o)

HW - Reading log for week 3.

Tuesday - Today we will complete day 3 of lesson 7. Students will finish collecting data, including force, for their motors, then we will share conclusions and analyses.

HW - Turn in your project alert homework from last week tomorrow.

Wednesday - I gave students time today to finish lesson 7 (they had to have their Designing an Experiment Sheet and their Lab Write-Up sheet completed by the end of the block today.)

Students who finished early had time to complete any missing assignments in this class or any other.

HW - Since we will be in Victoria on Friday, the Reading Logs for week 3 are due tomorrow.

Thursday - Project Alert with Heidi Dodd.

Then we will have a reading activity. Student tables will be assigned all the reading we skipped to get to lesson this week. Each table will learn a part of the reading and prepare a short presentation to teach the class what they learned.

Future plans: We are almost done with the first third of this unit, Energy. We will work through lessons 7, 8 and maybe 9 this week. Lesson 11 will mark the beginning of the Machines section of this unit.

Language Arts (6th per)

We are still blocking these two periods and combining Language Arts with Science. This week we have to catch up on our reading.

Reading logs are still due every Friday, which means that all students are still expected to read daily at home for a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes. I give students a copy of the  Reading log every Monday or at the latest Tuesday.

Future plans: We will practice and review reading strategies as we read through the science textbooks together. Students are also writing daily during this time as they plan and design their labs and then write-up their labs. Students are also answering questions from the textbook using the data they collect in the form of data tables and graphs.

 

 

 

Exploratory - 1st period
