Start checking your 3rd Trimester grades here!

Some 6th and 7th graders are falling behind on their blogging homework. Students need to keep up with their blogging assignments, which is why I have it assigned as homework every night (those who do it won't have it as homework every night, though). The homework is affecting their grade in Science!

Daily Schedule
1st per - 7:35am to 8:37am
2nd per - 8:41am to 9:33am
3rd per - 9:37am to 10:29am
Eagle Time - 10:33am to 11:00am
Lunch - 11:00am to 11:32am
4th per - 11:36am to 12:28pm
5th per - 12:32pm to 1:24pm
6th per - 1:28pm to 2:20pm

6th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will work on concluding EMM Lesson 5, p. 41, parts 5.1 and 5.2 by working on the reflection questions.

HW - Blog (we talked about not blowing off the blogging homework and I reviewed how to visit other class blogs to leave comments and communicate with other students from around the world!) and here is EMM Lesson 5 in case you missed any part of it.

Tuesday - Today students will finish working on the p. 41 reflection questions. Students will share their answers as we check them over together.

HW - Blog

Wednesday - Today we will finish lesson 5 and begin lesson 6 on the force of friction!

HW - Blog

Thursday - Today we will work on EMM Lesson 6 - The Force of Friction. I will also introduce a project that a class in Canada wants to work on with us over our blog and their blog. It's going to be fun.

HW - Blog

Friday - Today we will continue with our first lab on the force of friction, Inquiry 6.1, where students will test the friction of five different surface types.

7th grade Science:

Monday - We will check on our brassica butterfly larvae as well as our brassica plants. Then we will continue to work on our hydroponics project by using Inquiry Boards to plan our experiments.

HW - Blog (We talked about not blowing off the blogging homework and I reviewed how to visit other class blogs to leave comments and communicate with other students from around the world!)

Tuesday - Yesterday we brainstormed a bunch of variables we could manipulate (independent) and measure (responding or dependent). Today we will choose which variables we will experiment on and setup our controls for this lab.

HW - Blog

Wednesday - Yesterday we chose our variables and came up with a pretty big list of controls (controlled variables) in order to show if hydroponics is indeed better than soil planting. Then we wrote our problem question and hypothesis, and we began to work on our procedure.

HW - Blog

Thursday - Today we got through our procedure so we began to set up our turbogarden, make our soil containers and put soil in them, and get our seeds started by putting them in wet paper towels. At some point in there we will also create our data table to have it ready to collect data.

I will also introduce a project that a class in Canada wants to work on with us over our blog and their blog. It's going to be fun.

HW - Blog and here is a copy of the lab write-up we have done in class so far for anyone who has missed any days.

Friday - Today students will continue to set up their soil and soilless pots. As soon as our seeds begin to sprout students will plant them.

Today we will either begin to take baseline readings of pH, D.O., air and water temp and relative humidity and/or students will start to plan their second lab (again using the Inquiry Boards) with the other seeds I bought.
