6th grade Science:

Monday - I hope everyone had a great Spring Break! Welcome back. Today we will review what we learned in Energy, Machines and Motion (EMM) lesson 2 and then we will start lesson 3 on Rechargeable Batteries.

Here's an EMM website for the Energy section we are studying, the first link is on the history of batteries!

And here's the How Stuff Works website for Batteries!

HW - 6th grade Standards

Tuesday - Today we will finish the lesson 3 lab on rechargeable batteries. Students will record their observations in their notebooks, then they will answer some reflection questions.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will go over the lesson 3 reflection questions. If you missed any part of lesson 3 here are the class notes/questions.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will finish lesson 3 (we just need to finish reviewing the answers to the reflection questions).

Then we will start lesson 4 on Storing and Using Energy in a Battery.

HW - Here are the questions and drawings in case you missed part of it or didn't finish.

Friday - Today students will work on lesson 4 (Using and Storing Energy in a Battery). We will be using the following Inquiry Boards to learn how to conduct an experiment using the Scientific Method.

HW - None

7/8 grade Science:

Monday - Today students will check in on what they started writing on our class Google Docs page. The week before Spring Break, students had chosen three questions to research about volcanoes, then they chose what they wanted to create to share what they learned with the class. Today teams will need to get back into the groove and continue their projects.

Click here to get information on what students are doing.

HW - 7/8 Standards

Tuesday - Teams are still working on their volcano projects. The part that is toughest for many teams is the research part. I hear from many students that they don't want to read. Hmm. Hard to learn about volcanoes without reading about volcanoes. I keep telling them there's no way around that one, you need to read to learn. And that's the research phase.

HW - None

Wednesday - Same as yesterday. I am working with teams to make sure they conduct their research, answer the questions they asked about volcanoes, and learn something. This is a crucial step that teams are either avoiding or doing a quick and shallow job.

To help all the teams I left detailed feedback in the form of comments on the Volcano Google Doc we are all using. Students are using my feedback to figure out what to do next.

HW - None

Thursday - Today teams will continue to use the feedback I left on the class Volcano Google Doc to continue learning about volcanoes.

HW - None

Friday - Same as yesterday.

HW - None
