6th grade Science:

Monday - This week students should complete their water pollution webquest notes by answering all the questions. Then teams will edit their answers and arrange them into a single document. They will add pictures and then decide how they want to publish their work.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today is an early release and I will have my 1st and 3rd period classes. They will be working on the same thing as yesterday. I left every team feedback on their google docs so they can improve their work.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today is an early release and I will see my 6th period class. They will continue to work on their project like 1st and 3rd period did yesterday, by checking the feedback that I left for them.

HW - None

Thursday - Students are using the feedback I left on their Google Docs to make their answers better. Every team has to do more research to improve their answers.

HW - None

Friday - Same as yesterday. I have extended the deadline to next week because many teams are still researching to make their answers more complete and have more information for their brochures.

HW - None

8th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will start to investigate what it means to be living.

  1. We will start by observing some objects. Students will write down what they see.
  2. Then we will brainstorm if the objects are alive.
  3. Then we will start a list of evidence that something is alive.
  4. Then students will complete an assessment probe sheet called, Is it living?
  5. Then students will work in teams to sort a set of cards of things into piles to determine which are living, non-living, was once living, or undecided.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today is an early release and I will be seeing my 5th period class. We are going to finish our sorting activity into Living, Non-Living, Once Living and Undecided.

Then we will start to setup our miniponds by visiting the creek.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today is an early release and I will be seeing my 2nd period class. We are going to finish our sorting activity into Living, Non-Living, Once Living and Undecided.

Then we will start to setup our miniponds by visiting the creek.

HW - None

Thursday - Today teams will finish placing the items into living, non-living, once living, or undecided categories. Then we will come up aspects that all living things have in common. Students will also revisit their Is it Living assessment probe to see if they still agree with what they originally wrote.

HW - None

Friday - Today teams finished sharing their ideas with the class. Then we began a list of characteristrics that all living things need to have to be considered a living thing. I put some plant cuttings and a sweet potato in water to see if that will help students determine if they are still alive or once living as soon as they are cut from a tree, bush or plant (vegetable).

Then students started to blog about what they've learned so far and what they think.

HW - None
