6th grade Science:

Monday - I've extended the deadline for the water pollution webquest to this week because students are still working on adding more details to their brochure.

Students will also be filling out a midterm grade sheet as part of their midterm self-assessment.

HW - 6th period, show parents your Science progress report.

Tuesday - Today a North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) restoraton steward, Kai Wallin, will be paying us a visit to work with students as part of our water quality project. Kai will be sharing some information about Chimacum Creek and showing students some benthic macroinvertebrates from our creek (we started learning about these bugs at Cispus!).

HW - 1st & 3rd period, show parents your Science progress report.

Wednesday - Today I will have a sub so that I can go to a training on class discourse and questioning.

Teams will continue to work on their water pollution webquest. It would be great if by today teams could start to polish their document so that we can publish it by next week, in time to share it for conferences.

HW - None

Thursday - We have given ourselves the goal of having the water pollution webquest brochures published by next week in time for parent-teacher-student conferences on Thursday and Friday. In order to do that students need to complete the following in the order given:

  1. Finish answering the ten questions completely.
  2. Working together, edit the document to make the answers flow and to chunk the information in a way that makes sense.
  3. Add pictures to your Google Doc.
  4. Then we will publish our work.

HW - None unless you need to work on your water pollution project.

Friday - I shared with students that yesterday after school I posted grades to Skyward and many grades were based on the self-assessment feedback I got from the students.

Today students are contuing their work just like they did yesterday.

HW - None unless you need to work on your water pollution project.

8th grade Science:

Monday - Today students will be setting up a lab to gain some more insight into living and non-living things. We will spend the week observing the different objects they will set up today. Students are also still working on their Is it Living blog assignment.

Students will also be filling out a midterm grade sheet as part of their midterm self-assessment.

HW - 5th period, show parents your Science progress report.

Tuesday - Today students will finish setting up their experiment and write down any observations. Then they will continue to work on their Is it Living blog assignment, which includes leaving feedback comments on each other's work.

HW - 2nd period, show parents your Science progress report.

Wednesday - Today I will have a sub so that I can go to a training on class discourse and questioning.

Students will continue to check their experiments, writing down any observations, and working on their Is it Living blog assignment.

HW - None

Thursday - Today students made observations and recorded them on the 48 hrs column. Then students recorded whether or not they had any evidence that their substances were living or non-living.

Then students took a look at each of their substances under digital microscopes.

HW - None

Friday - Today teams will be sharing their results for each type of liquid we tested to see what everyone got. We will be checking to see if our charasteristics of living things lists are complete and to see for sure which of the five substances are living.

HW - None
