6th grade Science:

Monday - This week we will work on publishing the water pollution webquest brochures by putting them on student's blogs.

Today teams who are ready will either continue or begin to put pictures on their Google Docs.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today I will show students how to use their class blogs so they can practice. Their first assignment will be to write seven random facts about themselves.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will have a guest speaker from the Jefferson County Library. She works with the Homework Help program on Tuesdays and Thursdays and she will be sharing some resources with us today.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will work on copying and pasting the water pollution work onto the class blogs. I will also show students how we will comment on each other's work for peer review.

HW - None

Friday - Today students need to finish copying and pasting their water pollution work onto their blogs. Then I'll show them how to add their pictures so they can begin reading and commenting blogs from other schools.

HW - None

8th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will go over the Is it Living probe and the Living or Non-Living sheet. Then students will glue them into their notebooks.

Then teams will ask questions about the five substances we've been investigating to design their own labs to answer their questions. By today we will start to identify variables that we can manipulate and measure.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will continue to identify variables so that teams can choose what they want to test. In other words, teams will be choosing what they want to investigate through a controlled experiment using the materials we've been working with (pure water, salt water, sugar water, yeast, brine shrimp eggs, radish seeds, polyacrylate crystals).

Then teams will write their questions and hypotheses. (We are using inquiry boards to organize, plan and write up our lab.)

HW - None

Wednesday - Today teams will continue to write their problem questions and hypotheses so they can start to design their step-by-step procedure. This is when teams will figure out what materials they will need to bring if I don't have it.

HW - None

Thursday - Today those teams who get their procedures approved by me will be able to start their lab and collect data.

Those who aren't quite there will be working on writing their procedure (which includes a drawing of their experiment, a materials list, and a step-by-step section).

HW - None

Friday - There are still teams who are working on their lab write-ups (they didn't finish yesterday), so they will most likely start their labs, collecting data, on Monday.

Teams will create their data table and plan how they will be collecting data. It's much easier if they can collect data that are in number form.

Those who are done will read and comment on blogs from a 9th grade Science class.

HW - None
