Daily Activities
Week 2, 9/10 to 9/14
(This may change from day to day depending on how much we actually get done in class so check back often to make sure something wasn't changed at the last minute.)

Cispus forms and letters will be coming home this week. Stay tuned as I find out exactly when. You will need to read the packing list and get the gear ready for your 6th grader as well as fill out the medical form and permission form. Get those turned in to your homeroom teacher ASAP.

Blocks A/B

Monday, 9/10 - After students fill out their planner and complete the opener, we will begin by going over the Informed Consent Agreement.

Then we will complete a KWL about volcanoes, earthquakes and plate tectonics. Students in A block chose team and reading jobs, while students in B block still have to choose.

HW - Get Informed Consent Agreement signed (both sides).

Read Project A+ letter and How to Get a Hold of Me letter with parents, as well as my Late Work Policy letter. Get letters signed.

Wednesday, 9/12 - Every class starts with students filling out their planners and then doing a science opening activity. Then students will complete a Computer Use survey. We will begin reading Ch 6, section 1, p. 176, on Volcanoes. We will practice the SCAN & RUN reading strategy, along with the "click or clunk" for rereading. Reading jobs will also be discussed.

HW - Read lab needs letter with parents so that we can prepare for our first lab, Predicting Lava Flows.

Friday, 9/14 - We will continue to read Ch 6 on Volcanoes while continuing to practice our reading strategies. Students are completing a study guide in their small groups.

In both A block and B block, we read up to p. 179 and got as far as question seven (B block ended on question five) on the study guides. Students leave their study guides here in class so they do not lose them. Each team completes one study guide.

 

HW - Get Cispus forms signed and turned in to homeroom teacher by Monday, 9/17.

Blocks C/D

Computers 2

This week: Students are working on choosing topics with their team. Once topics are chosen, students will begin to completely storyboard their ideas.

Students will then get some tips on Conducting Research. Then the research stage will begin where students use the computers to find information on their topics.
