6th Graders Blog About World Problems
March 2, 2016
Questions started flying about why do we still use fuel sources that pollute the world, will have to wear masks like people in Shanghai, China, what if we don’t stop polluting, etc.
Then one student said, “why don’t we start a blog to share ideas, like maybe using static electricity and convert it to electricity we can use because there’s lots of it and it’s clean?”
I said, “you mean a blog different from all your individual blog accounts?”
“Yes,” she said.
So I thought, “are you saying that we can start a blog where anyone who has ideas to share or questions can post and we would share it?”
Pretty soon others were chiming in and the excitement level in the room went way up! The ideas were flying all over the room and so many wanted to do it that I shared the idea with my other two 6th grade Science classes. The other two classes were just as excited and wanted to contribute! So I launched the Chimacum World Solutions blog and made a Google Classroom assignment to collect their blog posts and links to photos and/or videos. So I copy and paste their posts and add their images or videos and we’ve got four posts live right now! I’ll be sharing their posts one at a time here to help spread their voices and share their ideas with as many people as we can.
Please help out by reading and maybe even commenting or at least by sharing these kids’ posts with your PLN and social networks! 🙂
The first post I want to feature here is the intro post written by the young girl who had this idea and the friend who helped her get that idea started:

I will be sharing/featuring the other blog posts, and new ones as they write them, here in the coming days! I’m so excited to be sharing my student’s ideas, their words, their thoughts, their wishes, their questions, and to help give them a voice! Thank you for helping me. 🙂
