We had SO much FUN! Friday, Feb 21, at 7:30 am Chimacum, WA, time 10 Chimacum Elementary School students logged in to their school-issued Minecraft Java Edition eSports accounts. They then joined a Minecraft server hosted by the Club Minecraft UK (Club Minecraft Twitter) group located in Surrey, England! The US and UK kids played a few different Minecraft games together thankfully because being eight hours away, our morning eSports Club meeting just coincided with the time the UK kids are getting home from school. Perfect! Here’s a glimpse into the games we played, and yes, even I, a grown-up and teacher, had to log in and try my hand at one of the games. I had an embarrassingly good time myself, too (here’s the full-length video WITHOUT Mr. G’s face and commentary)! And all the while we had a reporter from the Peninsula Daily News writing a story of our joint venture! 🙂 Here’s the article written by the Peninsula Daily News.
Ten Chimacum students from our eSports club got to play with the UK kids and one of the 10 kids is the announcer you see in the video above so he announced while playing because I’m not sure how he could have announced from in the game without actually playing it. That was more fun for him anyway getting to announce AND play. Since we have 24 kids in our eSports club I had the other 14 kids playing on Minecraft Education Edition, on which all the kids have accounts. They were playing a Capture the Flag type game that they had started on the Wednesday prior. Each team had a base with a colored wool block and their task was to fortify their base before getting to storm each other’s fortified bases to capture the other team’s wool first! This day was the day they got to storm each other’s base so all 24 CES Minecraft eSports Club kids were having a GREAT time playing Minecraft! Here’s a short video showing snippets of their game:
Overall a huge success. And since the game with Surrey was so enjoyable Matt from Club Minecraft UK and I talked and scheduled one day each month until the end of our school year to get together and play! I’m glad because that way I can cycle through and have all our kids enjoy some game time with the Surrey kids!
Our next match will be on Friday, March 13.
