This week, May 21 to May 25, 8th grade teachers at my school will be taking over 85 8th graders along with 20 HS counselors to Camp David, Jr. on gorgeous Lake Crescent for an Olympic Odyssey outdoor education experience. One aspect of this trip that stresses out a bunch of our students, including yours truly, is that we ask that they leave all their electronic devices at home. Oh yeah, we will be totally un-connected from all music, texting, Facebook and Twitter.
Well, what if they sneak a device? There’s no reception at Lake Crescent so even if they bring something they can’t connect to check their Facebook or text someone. And the cabins are so small that they won’t even be able to sneak a song without their cabin mates or cabin counselors catching them. Yep, this odyssey is not only one of exploring the Science, History, and Culture of our Olympic peninsula here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, but also one of returning to nature with only the basic amenities to comfort us. Hey, with all their peers here who needs Facebook?
So to all the Tweeps in my PLN, I’ll catch you all next week! We’ll see if I can catch up to all the great posts of the week this coming weekend when my RSS feeds will be full!
