Al Gonzalez's Grant History

Grant 1, Year 1. 1992-1993 Los Angeles Educational Partnership (LAEP) $500 to connect his 4th and 5th grade class to the Internet. Al purchased a modem, a 100 ft phone cord and used his AOL account to connect his class to the Internet.

Grant 2, Year 2. 1994-1995 Josephine Bay Paul and C. Michael Paul Foundation, Inc. $3,000 to purchase a new computer and a scanner to create the school newspaper that his class put together (students from other classes submitted articles and drawings to this school paper).

Grant 3, Year 3. 1999-2000 Technology Literacy Challenge Fund (TLCF)'s Learning Space: Right in Class project over $10,000 in equipment and software plus several days of training in using technology seamlessly in the classroom.

Grant 4. Year 3. 1999-2000 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Teacher Leadership Project (TLP) grant over $10,000 in equipment plus 10 days of training (also in the area of using technology to improve student achievement), hotel, travel, and sub reimbursement.

Grant 5, Year 4. 2000-2001 Toshiba America Foundation $4,800 to start Chimacum's Water Quality Project!

Grant 6, Year 4. 2000-2001 EDS $1,500 to further Chimacum's Water Quality Project!

Grant 7, Year 4. 2000-2001 Friends of Chimacum Foundation $250 as seed money to purchase a digital camcorder.

Grant 8, Year 5. 2001-2002 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Model Schools Grant $136,000 for school improvement efforts at the middle school!

Grant 9, Year 5. 2001-2002 WA Initiative $1,800 scholarship to pay for part of National Board Certification fees

Grant 10, Year 5. 2001-2002 National Science Foundation paid for Pattern Exploration Institute training, flight to Florida, hotel and meals apprx $2,000.

Grant 11, Year 6. 2002-2003 Salute to Educator's Stepping into the Future grants $150 to purchase a Tom Snyder Decisions, Decisions program.

Grant 12, Year 6. 2002-2003 Washington Educators Association (WEA's) Innovative Educator Grant $1,500 for the Water Quality Project!

Grant 13, Year 7. 2003-2004 Got to run the Student TECH CORPS program for Chimacum Schools at the middle school and received a $1,500 grant to cover the program's costs and free training!

Grant 14, Year 7. 2003-2004 WA Initiative $600 scholarship to pay for National Board Certification retake fees.

Grant 15, Year 7. 2003-2004 OSPI's Learn and Serve America Washington grant $14,112 to add major improvements to the Water Quality Project including making it a true service learning project!

Grant 16, Year 8. 2004-2005 OSPI's Learn and Serve America Washington grant $14,028 for the Water Quality Project!

Grant 17, Year 8. 2004-2005 Got to run the Student TECH CORPS program for Chimacum Schools at the middle school for one more year again ($1,500 value) free of charge!

Grant 18, Year 9. 2005-2006 OSPI's Learn and Serve America Washington grant $12,208 for the Water Quality Project!

Grant 19, Year 10. 2006-2007 OSPI's Learn and Serve America Mini-grant $4,000 to continue and sustain the Water Quality Project!

Grant 20, Year 10. 2006-2007 Best Buy's Teach Award $2500 grant! Out of 1,300 teachers that got the $2,500 grant, I was one of the 250 schools chosen to apply for a $15,000 grant, so I did!

Grant 21, Year 10. 2006-2007 Target's Field Trip grant for $1,000! This grant will pay for part of our 6th grade water quality field trips as well as a 7th grade earth science field trip this Spring! My proposal was one of 800 chosen from over 16,000 applicants! See the 06-07 grant items!

Grant 22. Year 10. 2006-2007 Best Buy's School Award $15,000 grant!! Out of the 250 schools chosen to apply, I was one of the 50 who won! And then we were eligible to apply for a $250,000 district grant! We applied for the district grant but it was given to the San Diego school district. You win some, you lose some. At least we tried.

Grant 23, Year 11. 2007-2008 HP's Technology for Teaching Grant! Mr. Gonzalez, Mr. Thomsen, Mr. DiPrete, Mr. Olafson, and Ms. Langston teamed up to write a proposal for a 6, 7, 8 Math and Science project. The team of five received equipment and will get training totalling more than $31,000!

Grant 24, Year 11. 2007-2008 OSPI's Learn and Serve America Mini-grant year two funds were increased from $4,000 to $7,046! There was more money for service learning so Chimacum students get access to more field trips and more equipment to study our creek's water quality and the Hood Canal.

Grant 25, Year 11. 2007-2008 - One of six schools chosen to receive the 2007 Hooked on Hydroponics Award (the M-1 package worth $900) from the National Gardening Association!

Grant 26, Year 12. 2008-2009 - OSPI's Learn and Serve America Mini-grant year three funds were increased, again, from $4,000 to $9,000!

Grant 27, Year 13. 2009-2010 - Learn and Serve America Sustainable Design Grant for our Water Quality Project. $5,620!

Grant 28, Year 14. 2010-2011 - Learn and Serve America Sustainable Design Grant for our Water Quality Project. $10,000!

Grant 29, Year 14. 2010-2011 - Chimacum School District to use Solo 6 as part of our Water Quality Project. $2,000!

Grant 30, Year 14. 2010-2011 - WA STEM Entrepeneurial Award for $10,300 to work on using Social Networking to learn with my Math/Science PLC (Ms. Langston, Mrs. Berreth, Mr. DiPrete, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Schmitt, Mr. Miller and Mrs. Ploof)!

Grant 31, Year 15. 2011-2012 - Friends of Chimacum Schools Education Foundation for $595 to replace a broken Water Quality Vernier LabQuest!

Grant 32, Year 16. 2012-13 - $1,000 The Washington Foundation for the Environment (WFFE) as part of their Nonprofit Environmental Ed for the Water Quality Project!

Grant 33, Year 16. 2012-13 - $2,000 from the ING Unsung Heroes awards program!

Grant 34, Year 17. 2013-14 - $250 from WISE to teach students about invasive species!

Grant 35, Year 17. 2013-14 - $5,000 from CenturyLink! The tech grant that I've tried to get and failed twice! They chose my application after all.

Grant 36, Year 18. 2014-15 - Received a WA STEM PD grant totalling $13,925!

Grant 36 cont'd, Year 19. 2015-16 - Working on Year 2 of our WA STEM PD grant.

Grant 37, Year 19. 2015-16 - Received a Friends of Chimacum Schools Foundation grant for $300 for a Newton's Law project using Sphero Robotic Balls!

Grant 38, Year 19. 2015-16 - Received $245 in donations via an Indiegogo Campaign, that raised awareness and our very WeAct Club raised $350, the WA State Trooper's Association donated $900 and the Friends of Chimacum Schools donated $1,000 to start a Student Tech Support Group at Chimacum Middle School in the hopes of getting more computers into the hands of students! (That's a total of $2,495!)

Grant 39, Year 19. 2015-16 - Received an NEEF grant for our Environmental Stewardship Project - $750!

Grant 40, Year 20. 2016-17 - Received a CenturyLink Teachers and Technology grant to continue and expand the Student Tech Support Group (ChimTech) started last year through generous donations! - $5,000!

Grant 41, Year 20. 2016-17 - Received a Peninsula Credit Union grant for the Environmental Stewardship Project - $500!

Grant 42, Year 21. 2017-18 - Received a grant from, and became an, Ocean Guardian School through our Environmental Stewardship Project! - $4,000!

Grant 43, Year 22. 2018-19 - Received Year 2 funds from the Ocean Guardian School project for our Environmental Stewardship Project for another $4,000!

Grant 44, Year 22. 2018-19 - Got my first Donors Choose Project Funded! - $915!

Grant 45, Year 22, 2018-19 - Got a Dennis Watson YMCA Spirit of Team Grant for our 6th Grade Cispus Program! - $1,500!

Grant 46, Year 23. 2019-20 - Received Year 3 funds from the Ocean Guardian School project for our Environmental Stewardship Project for another $4,000! This is officially our second year as an Ocean Guardian School.

Grant 47, Year 24. 2020-21 - Received Year 4 funds from the Ocean Guardian School project for our Environmental Stewardship Project for another $2,500! This is officially our third year as an Ocean Guardian School.

Grant 48, Year 24. 2020-21 - This one is more of a prize but I had to do something to get it and most of the monies go to the school, which I get to spend on our esports program, so I'm counting this as a grant! I won second place on an Epic Games Teach with Interactive 3D Contest by creating a lesson for kids to design experiments using Fortnite Creative! The prize was $5,000 ($3,500 went to the school and $1,500 went to me!).

Grant 49, Year 25. 2021-22 - Received a 3-Year World School Pass and Classroom Pass for Avantis World VR Theme Park totaling $1,498! The school pass gives us 30 teacher accounts allowing up to 35 students in each account.

Grant 50, Year 25. 2021-22 - Received Year 5 (final year) funds from the Ocean Guardian School project for our Environmental Stewardship Project for another $1,000! This is officially our fourth year as an Ocean Guardian School because Year 1 is a probation year to see if you follow through with your project.

Grant 51, Year 26. 2022-23 - I was awarded the EPA's Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators! $5,000 ($2,500 went to the school and $2,500 went to me!)

Grant 52, Year 27. 2024-25 - Received a $2,000 grant from the Chimacum Arts and Craft Fair to support our Cispus Outdoor Education trip!
