Week 1, 4/11 to 4/15

Monday, April 11, final grades given to all students!
(Report cards won't be mailed for a few weeks yet.)

5th per - Language Arts - 12:30pm to 1:18pm

Math

Monday - Problem 6.2, p. 58.

HW - ACE #'s 1-6, and 8-11, pp. 60 - 62.

Tuesday - Problem 6.3, p. 59.

HW - ACE #'s 21 & 22, p. 66.

Wednesday - This week is the Snapshot of Hood Canal week. Schools all around the canal will be conducting water quality tests to share at the Hood Canal Youth Summit on June 2. Our class will take the west side of the canal! Today we will take a whole day field trip to test the water quality on the west side of the Hood Canal.

HW - None

Thursday - I will have a sub today as I take a day to for a team training session.

Today kids will complete an Enrichment Worksheet 4-7 on area.

HW - None

Friday - Problem 7.1, p. 70. We started it today and kids will finish this one on Monday.

HW - None

Future plans: After Investigation 7, we will take a final test on Covering & Surrounding. Then we will finally begin our last book of the year, Bits and Pieces I.

 

 

Science

Monday - Today we will get our equipment set up and ready for Wednesday's excursion. Teams need to familiarize themselves with their kits and probes to take water quality tests on the field Wednesday!

HW - Please sign the permission slip so your child can go on the water quality testing field trip this Wednesday!

Tuesday - Kit groups read over their instructions to be completely prepared for tomorrow, probes groups hot synched their palm pilot computers and tested their equipment. Batteries were refreshed.

HW - Permission slips were due today!! Don't wait until tomorrow because we have to be out of here by 8am.

Wednesday - Snapshot of Hood Canal water quality testing.

HW - None

Thursday - I received the Science & Technology Concepts for Middle School (STC/MS) Energy, Machines and Motion kit that we will be piloting this week but it will take me several days to get that organized and prepare the first lesson.

For that reason we will take time today to watch a couple of Canada province videos so that kids can get more information for their Canadian Vacation project.

HW - None

Friday - Today I will take some time to collect data from our field trip. We watched the movie that I filmed from our exciting day of water quality testing!

HW - None

Future plans: Sometime this week, I will receive the STC/MS kit that we will be piloting this year on Energy, Machines and Motion. Once I get it all set up, we will begin studying energy, machines and motion.

Language Arts

Monday - Students will be reading their Canada student guide packets and taking notes for their Canadian Vacation Project during language as well so that we can have an entire block to work on this to finish phase 1 maybe by the end of this week.

Progress reports handed out today with the final grades!

HW - Choose your product from the list of choices and work on your province report at home. This week we will start with week 1 of our Reading Log.

Tuesday - Canadian Vacation Project phase 1 continued.

HW - Read and record your Reading Log.

Wednesday - Snapshot of Hood Canal water quality testing.

HW - Same as Tuesday.

Thursday - Project Alert with Heidi Dodd.

HW - Whatever Heidi assigns is due tomorrow along with this week's Reading Log.

Friday - Canadian Vacation Project phase 1 continued.

HW - None

Future plans: In Language Arts we will need to practice the three writing traits that 6th graders need to learn (Ideas, Organization and Word Choice) for next year. The writing that we do in social studies will be crafted and scored during Language Arts. We will also review the PAR strategies necessary to be successful readers.

 

 

Social Studies

Monday - Canadian Vacation Project phase 1 continued.

HW - Work on your province or territory product. It's due Friday but I'll accept it Monday. The rough draft for your report is due Friday though so get cracking on that.

Tuesday - Canadian Vacation Project phase 1 continued.

HW - Same as Monday.

Wednesday - Snapshot of Hood Canal water quality testing.

HW - Same as Monday.

Thursday - Canadian Vacation Project phase 1 continued.

HW - Same as Monday.

Friday - (1:30pm) Today is our library day.

HW - Finish your product (poster, map, etc).

Future plans: This project will prepare us for our Victoria field trip on May 13 and for our Canadian Trading Post on May 27.
