The packet includes an information page with a recommended packing list (yellow), a registration/permission form and health form (blue), a Cispus payment contract (orange), and an authorization for administering medication form (white and needed if your child takes any medication).

Also included with the Cispus packet is an order form for Cispus t-shirts or sweatshirts. This is completely optional but if your child can have one, please have your money and order to us by Friday, Sept 9.

Friday I passed out picture order forms. Picture day at the middle school will be Tuesday, Sept 13.

Social Studies:

Monday - Labor Day - No School!

HW - None

Tuesday - I have an intro PowerPoint presentation to show students today. While going through the presentation we will discuss and decide on our Norms for the year.

HW - A Cispus packet is going home this afternoon, please read through it and return the registration/health form as soon as possible and get the authorization for administration of medication filled out by next week.

I'm also sending home a course syllabus. Tonight students have homework as well. Students are to take a blank white piece of paper and draw a map of their home and the surrounding streets.

Thursday - Yesterday we finally finished coming up with some procedures and we agreed upon which expectations to use for the year. I typed that up for students and have it ready to go home today.

Students will share their maps with their teams, then I will let volunteers share their maps with the class. I will also collect the Lab Safety Contracts.

If we have time we will go over the Informed Consent Agreement for this year. I may introduce cooperative group jobs.

HW - Get all your paperwork read and signed by parent(s). Paperwork includes:

  1. Cispus packet (please indicate if your child is not going in writing).
  2. Cispus t-shirt or sweatshirt order (optional)
  3. Lab Safety Contract
  4. Classroom Expectations Contract
  5. Informed Consent Agreement.

Science:

Monday - Labor Day - No School!

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will wrap up our class meeting on the norms we will agree to follow for the year.

Yesterday both my morning class and my afternoon class were great. Students all want to be respected and to have a quiet, safe environment where they can learn. That's what I want too! Hurray!

Before the block is over today, I will go over Chimacum Middle School's Lab Safety Contract with students.

HW - Please read the Lab Safety Contract with your parents. Then you and your parents can sign it. Return it signed tomorrow. Also keep working on getting your Cispus packet completed and make sure your home map is drawn and ready to turn in tomorrow.

Friday - I'd like to collect all the handouts that we passed out this week. If you still need any Cispus sheets, please keep it and turn it in on Monday (except for the t-shirt order form, that is due today with the money if you want a t-shirt or sweatshirt). As for the Lab Safety Contract, Classroom Expectations Contract and the Informed Consent Agreement I could sure use those today.

Students have been practicing how to turn in work in my class so their papers don't get lost. When an assignment is due, students need to hold on to it until I ask for them in class (if students try to turn papers in one at a time whenever they want, that is all I'd be doing and papers will get lost). In class, I will ask one child from each table to collect all the assignments and turn them in to the back of room to the correct basket.

If a student does not turn in an assignment on time, it is his or her responsibility to turn it in the next day into the correct basket.

Today we will watch a Mt. Saint Helens video in preparation for our visit to Mt. Sain Helens during Cispus. After the video was over, students shared what they wrote on their Video Debrief Sheet. Then I gave each student a chance to rate his or her social skills by using my social skills evaluation sheet. This will help students focus, evaluate and improve on getting along with each other so that they learn in school.

HW - Only to turn in any signed sheets or handouts by Monday if you have not done so already.

Exploratory - 1st period

Monday - Labor Day - No School!

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will get to know each other's names by playing the Name Toss game. This activity is an example of the kind of Lawn Activities we do to prepare for the Cispus Ropes course. It'll be fun :o)

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we ended up reviewing procedures and answering questions. We began our formal introduction activity.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will continue to work on our formal introduction activity. We didn't get to finish because students had a lot of Cispus questions and we had some questions about science that we discussed for a bit.

HW - None

Friday - Today we will try and finish our formal introductions. We did get through two teams of two yesterday so four students are done!

Today we almost finished all the introductions, but two students were absent so we'll introduce them on Monday.

HW - None
