Monday, Oct 3, all my students received a Science & Social Studies progress report. Midterm is October 17 and this progress report will allow students to turn in any missing assignments so that they can get the grades they want for midterm. At midterm, I will pay students class money for an overall A, B, or C in both classes! I will also start all my students with $50 free class dollars!!

Daily Schedule
1st per - Exploratory - 7:45am to 8:37am
1st Block (Periods 2 & 3) - Science and/or Social Studies - 8:41am to 10:29am
Eagle Time: 10:33am to 11:00am
Lunch - 11:00am to 11:32am
4th per - Band/Choir - 11:36am to 12:28pm
2nd Block (Periods 5 & 6) - Science and/or Social Studies - 12:32pm to 2:20pm

Social Studies:

Monday - Today I passed back all of September's work and I gave every student a progress report. We talked about grades and about missing work and about class money and about Market Day. That was about all we did. In my morning class we got to talk about Team Jobs and in my afternoon class we got to talk about Audrey's visit tomorrow. I will talk to my morning class tomorrow during first period about Audrey's visit and after Audrey is done with my afternoon class I will catch them up about Team Jobs (or we will talk about it Wednesday).

HW - Show your parents your progress report! Midterm will be in two weeks (Oct 17) so students have that long to raise their grades.

Wednesday - We will begin by hearing speeches from those interested in running for Benthic Macroinvertebrate group and for those interested in being part of the film crew.

Then we will work on our Map Activities. The morning class is ready to begin Map Activity #8 (we're skipping #7), while the afternoon class will continue working on Map Activity #5.

HW - None

Friday - Today we will also learn/practice our TEAM GROUP JOBS.

We will practice team jobs as we work through the rest of our Map Activities! My morning class got through Map Activity #16 (we skipped all the ones between 8 and 16 because 16 leads us perfectly into our next unit), and my afternoon class got done with Map Activity #8 (I have to pass on the materials to the Olafson/Meacham group now, which is why we are rushed to finish and which is also why my afternoon group never got to Map Activity #16 on the Inca Empire).

HW - None

Future plans: After we are done studying maps through our South America deskmaps, we will begin learning about Mesoamerica's ancient cultures.

Science:

Tuesday - Today Audrey from North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) will be our guest presenter to teach students about Chimacum Creek and NOSC's restoration efforts. She will also show kids how Chimacum Middle School 6th graders help NOSC!

We are on an assembly schedule, so classes will be shortened by about 4 minutes each. Ask your child what the assembly was all about.

After Audrey is done with her presentation I will explain how we will choose the Benthic Macroinvertebrate group and the film crew for this Spring's Water Quality project. The Film crew and the Benthic Macroinvertebrate group will get to start this Thursday with Audrey!

HW - None, unless you are running for film crew or benthic macroinvertebrate group. Then your homework is to prepare your speech telling your classmates why they should vote for you.

Thursday - The film crew and the Benthic Macroinvertebrate group will be working with Audrey today at Chimacum Creek under the bridge near Cenex.

The rest of the class will have time to finish their MSH Scavenger Hunt. Then I will show the class what their next project will be for science with a Volcano PowerPoint I prepared (the link to my PowerPoint is not as complete as the original because when I present it pictures come up one at a time, on the web the pictures are covering each other but you can get an idea if you are absent). The next project is a volcanology project.

HW - None

Future plans: This week will postpone our study of Mt St Helens to start our Water Quality project. The reason we are doing this part now is that we help the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) collect biological integrity data on Chimacum Creek and it has to be done before October 15 every year. We will be learning more about this later in the Spring!
