6th grade Science:

Monday - Today students have the opportunity to earn an A grade on their Mt Saint Helens Cispus Journal pages. I created a Mt Saint Helens website just for this purpose.

HW - Make sure your Social Studies teachers get your Cispus journals.

Tuesday - Today we will begin our Water Quality Project by viewing videos that past film crews created. After this students will be able to choose jobs.

HW - Those who want to apply for film crew or benthic macroinvertebrate group need to prepare speeches for tomorrow.

Wednesday - Hear speeches for film crew and benthic macroinvertebrate group. Classes will vote for two students to do film crew and three students to do benthic macroinvertebrate sampling.

Then students will choose from the remaining jobs.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will setup the Water Quality portion of our notebooks. Students will decorate their first page by drawing their vision of a pristine water environment with aquatic life.

Students will then take a questionnaire as a pre and post percenption survey for this Water Quality Project.

If we have time we will also do a KWL activity where students got to share their experiences and prior knowledge with rivers, streams, creeks and/or water quality or aquatic life.

HW - None

Friday - We will begin to SCAN-n-RUN Prentice Hall Earth Science textbook, Ch 12, section 3, page 411, on Fresh Water Pollution.

HW - None

7th grade Science:

Monday - Last week students didn't get to create their posters, some started but many did not. We will continue today as I give students time learn what they need to create their posters.

We will also begin to upload the pictures 6th graders took at Cispus.

4th period got to upload the Cispus picts, 5th period still has to get the Cispus picts. Neither class got to work on their posters. We will postpone working on those because we need to take pictures around campus while the weather holds.

HW - None

Tuesday - By today we should be ready to start going out to take our own pictures of the flora around our school.

(Students were shown what to do and how to do it and then both classes got to go out and take pictures.)

HW - Here's the leaf info I showed students in class to help them fill out our plant picture-taking form.

Wednesday - Today we will go to the other side of the campus, around the parking lot, to take more pictures.

Then students will upload their pictures.

4th period took pictures and 5th period uploaded.

HW - None

Thursday - Today kids will start identifying all the plants!

Project: catalogue and develop a web-based field guide for estuary and native coastal taxonomy and develop an interactive bio-diversity game.

Field Trips: Estuary of Chimacum Creek (at the mouth of the creek near the log dump).

HW - None

Friday - Today students will continue to work on identifying their plant pictures. We have some books in class for kids to use along with the following websites.
