Midterm is this Friday! Students need to be caught up by Monday, Oct 8, if they want to see good midterm grades. If midterm grades aren't as good as you want them remember that you still have time to fix them. Just don't wait too long. I passed out progress report to all my Science students on Friday, Oct 12.

6th grade Science:

Monday - Today Alicia from the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) will join us to share with students their role in the restoration efforts on Chimacum Creek. Alicia will also talk about benthic macroinvertebrate sampling and the groups she will take down to the creek this week to collect the samples, which will be sent to a lab for this year's B-IBI score for Chimacum Creek. See our water quality website for more info.

HW - If you missed any of the notes last week here they are in Word format: Per 1, Per 2 and Per 6. After that, kids were on their own so if someone missed Friday or misses any days in the future they will have to get the notes from their teammates.

Tuesday - Today Period 1 and Period 6 bug groups will go down to the creek to do their job with Alicia from NOSC. Film crews will join them to film and take pictures.

While they are doing that I will start to train the next group as the rest of the class works on their notes.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today is an early release.

Students kept taking notes while I worked with teams one at a time.

HW - None

Thursday - I will have a sub today as I attend an NCOSP PLC Symposium. Period 2 and the bonus group (those who were runners up) will go to the creek with Alicia to collect their bug samples.

Students need to finish taking notes on Ch 12, section 3 and start Ch 12, section 1, p. 394.

HW - None

Friday - Students are still working on taking notes while I train groups one at a time on their water quality jobs.

HW - Take progress reports home. Get them signed and returned and you'll get 2 extra credit points!

7th grade Science:

Monday - Today we put Lab Safety Contracts into our notebooks and I spoke to all students about midterm, missing assignments and next week's parent/teacher/student conferences.

Then we looked at the 18 plant posters that I narrowed down and students voted for their favorite three. Tomorrow I will show which ones won. See the top choice on our Life Science Portal.

HW - Field Trip Permission slips were passed out today for our Oct 19 Science field trip to the mouth of Chimacum Creek.

Tuesday - Begin making the plant websites today! I shared the results from the student votes and I talked about our Oct 19 field trip.

Students then began to storyboard their plant websites.

HW - None unless you haven't gotten your permission slip signed.

Wednesday - Today is an early release.

We will review how to use Dreamweaver.

HW - None
