6th grade Science:

Monday - This week my 1st period students, Ms. Langston's class, will be working with Mr. DiPrete on Energy, Machines, and Motion. I will be working with Mr. Olafson's class to have them conduct the water quality tests on Chimacum Creek. Mr. Olafson's class will be completing a Salmon Webquest while I train individual teams on their jobs. My goal is to take the kits groups to the creek Thursday and to have the probes teams do their testing on Friday.

My 6th period class, Mr. Meacham's, has begun learning how to take web notes using the Cornell Note-taking Method. We are moving on because most teams have completed their outline notes of Ch 12, section 3. I made Ch 12, section 1 extra credit because not enough teams are done with that part.

HW - 6th period students have homework. They will show their parents a release form from the folks who were in our school videotaping us as one of six schools chosen in WA state that demonstrate leadership and good teaching. Please read the letter and fill out the form (return with your child even if you decline signing it so that I can give your child five points for showing it to you).

Tuesday - Same as Monday, but continued.

HW - None

Wednesday - Same as Monday, continued. (I heard back from Science Kit and the fecal coliform nutrient is back ordered, they think it will ship Thursday, tomorrow, so we'll wait until next week to do that test.

HW - None

Thursday - Today the kit teams went to Chimacum Creek to collect water samples. Back in class they conducted their water quality tests.

HW - None

Friday - Today the probes teams went to Chimacum Creek to conduct their water quality tests.

8th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will begin an activity where we will learn the differences between observations and inferences.

HW - Blogging, many students are not keeping up with their bloggin homework already.

Tuesday - Today teams completed part two of the collecting evidence part of their observations and inferences activity. Then teams whiteboarded their ideas and shared.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will complete the summarizing questions part of the observations and inferences. Then students will get to catch up on their blogs (our Australian blog pals have been leaving us comments).

HW - None

Thursday - Today we used a 3-D map of the Earth to make observations about the differences in elevation (small scale, medium scale and large scale observations). Students then made some inferences about their observations. (See our Earth Science webpage.)

HW - None

Friday - Today teams will share their observations by whiteboarding the answers to yesterday's question about the continents and ocean basins.
